I think the problem here is in the fact that you dont want to spend money ! I have given options in this debate along with others with regard to repeaters, Ethernet over power adaptors, ect, whithout spending money, now its time to spend some effort !
I agree with previous post, get a longer cable, make one or join 2 together.
You last resort is this ! You need to remember that Wi-Fi is a sort of '2 wall technology' once its gone through 2 walls its in trouble ! Wi-Fi does not like building structure, so if your 'short cable' cable is long enough to get through a wall in the right direction that you want to extend range, drill a hole in the wall and connect the 2 routers, you may be surprised what happens !

I agree with the not wanting cables, what would be a good option in a repeater or AP? My old linksys setup with the DDR-WRT software works like a charm I get 6000kb/s to my media payer. I now have another application at a client an cannot install cable so looking for options.

A customer of mine needed to run a network from the far side of his house to the the guest cottage. We worked out that total cabling would need to be 180m (this means a switch would also need to be put in halfway somewhere).

After confirming that the cottage was on the same electricity circuit, we installed the following and it works like a charm:
http://www.geewiz.co.za/networking/127-200mbps-homeplug-networking-set-2x-ac-adapters.html

And it's plug and play too ;)

Thanks for the info, I have again tested with a repeater and get it to work at my house, but when unplugging and setting up in final location with line of site no luck, 3 days battling giving it a rest and will try again tommorow.
One of my suppliers also sells the power option - Billion but very pricy then again the cable would need to be over 300m so it may be the way to go.

Thanks for the heads up. I have emailed my hosting company to sort it out asap. I will post back here when it is up again.

My host did an upgarde yesterday and was waiting for DNS entries to update. Website is back up and running and fully functional
