Looking to buy a 1 Terabyte + hard drive but now sure what to go for as i have heard a lot about hard drives breaking recently....

Looking for a reasonably priced one as well...

Incredible Connection have their Iomega 1TB ext hdd for around R1300 or so ...

not sure of the brand though...

Yea my brother just got one at 1399 ... but it was on special from 1999.

Stay away from 1TB Seagate. You have to upgrade the firmware to keep the drive from failing shortly after you bought it. Unnecessary hassle.

You just said it's an Iomega 1TB, then you say you aren't sure of the brand. The brand is Iomega.

EDIT: Sorry, I have been corrected and understand the post now. Carry on... :D

Brand of the actual drive inside the Iomega....

Pooky, did you check the current page of the Hardware Bargains thread up top there.

Ah I see PC Zone have it again. That is a goood price.

What do I need to do to the Seagate to make it not break?

They do have on their updated website of a few hours back, like charlie said. Bottom block, on the right. Have 500G, 1T 1,5T and 2T listed

i meant to say i'm not sure what hdd is inside the casing, i'm also unsure about the Iomega brand ext casing compared to more famous brands like nexstar for eg ...i know the nexstar brand are good quality because i've used them myself but i've never heard of Iomega before ...

I believe it was the .11 series that had problems. The firmware needs to be reflashed on these. The .12's are ok.

You are giving your computer age away...

Iomega was there a looong time before Nexstar... Remember the first MO disks? Zip drives?
