Usually cheaper to do it seperately - or if you can find the 500gb R999 from game special then go for that - has a Toshiba drive in it.

Had a look at various options. Finally decided on the Nexstar 3 eSATA enclosure and got a 500GB SATA drive (Seagate). Price for Nexstar was about R350 and the HDD was about R900. Got a eSATA card for the desktop at about R250 and a PCMCIA adapter for the laptop at about R200. The Nexstar also do the USB thing so is still compatible with all other systems. In eSATA mode the data transfer speed is phenomenal. Almost 10x faster than USB.

Just bought an external 500 GB MyBook Essential for R 999. Looked at the option of building one up. Worked out a bit more, R 200 - R 300 more ... just as VanZan says. The MyBook Essential doesn't have firewire of esata though. Could have gone for the one up on the MyBook, but only needed it as a back up drive.
