External Hard Drive...... please help

Forgive me if this has been dealt with before, but being a little bit P.C. retarded, I would like to find out from the experts here.

I am in the market for an external hard drive of about a Thousand Rand for storing my photos.
Any make that I should avoid.
Best value for money.
Should I go for 2.5 or 3.5 (Whats the difference anyway)
Anything else I should know before buying.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

2.5" is a notebook hard drive, the external ones can be powered by your usb ports so there is no need to carry around an external PSU. On the 3.5" you will have the external PSU but they are generally cheaper.
