External HDD not working

I have an external HDD that does not work. When i plug the drive in windows picks the "Mass Storage Device", but the drive is not appearing.

I have checked in disk management and device manager. I tested the external case with an old 80GB drive and it works fine. The 250GB drive works fine when connected internally to the pc.

So far I have done a LL Format, recreated the partition (NTFS), unplugged the jumpers and tested the drive with SeaTools.

It is an IDE Drive in a Mobile Disk external case.

Go to computer\manage then Disk management - look for a 250GB disk that is not assigned a drive letter then rclick on that entry and assign a drive letter

I am running Vista 32 on one pc and WinXP on another. The drive does not work in either.

I have checked disk management, the drive does not appear there.

Maybe needs power?

BTech you were correct.

I connected the drive up to my power supply, leaving it in the external case, and it works 100%.

Now I need to just find a better AC adaptor.
