I bought a new Samsung G3 2TB drive last week. I already had a Samsung 1.5TB external which works perfectly. My new drive is exhibiting an annoying problem though.

I hibernate my PC every morning when I go to work and wake it when I get back. Unfortunately, my 2TB drive doesn't wake with the PC. Its LED in the front shows that is on, but the drive is sort of unplugged. The device manager doesn't even show the drive. If I disconnect and reconnect either the USB or power to the drive, it gets detected again, but its getting annoying to do that everyday. Especially since my 1.5TB Samsung doesn't need this. Any advice?

Have you given the drive a fixed drive letter? In Win 7 goto Conrol Panel, Administrative tools, Computer management, Disk management, right-click the drive & change drive letter & path.

Normally a power settings profile that screws it up, or the "allow Windows to switch drive off to save power".

Think you'll find your answer there.
