Hi, has anyone fitted and external antenna to their 4GLTE router, and is there a significant isignal mprovement ?
I need to boost my signal for. livestreming, just don't know , should I go that route or hotspot off a 5G cell network

Pretty sure you mean external.

I've seen with rain it doesn't make much if a difference because their network has been too overloaded. With Telekom it has made a difference using the external antenna. Haven't personally done it with other providers but I'm sure it will help if the signal inside your home is not up to scratch

If your signal is trash then yes but of signal is good there probably is a problem elsewhere.

Worked wonders for me during my rain years connecting to a very far away tower by a main road on Band 38, yeah definitely won't do much if your tower is close and / or congested.

Back when I was using Fixed LTE with MTN/Afrihost I got Poynting external High Gain LTE Mimo antenna for my Huawei B618S and it made a MASSIVE difference. Went from sub 10Mbps speeds to getting close to 80Mbps download after installing the antenna and my latency (ping) improved substantially as well. Even if you're close to the tower you will benefit from an external antenna because of improved SNR. Well worth the expense.

A proper antenna (Otto or Poynting) makes a big difference to signal strength. Whether that translates to improved speeds depends on the network congestion.

Thanx guys. I will now invest in one.
I need at least 2O MB up speed for a decent stream. More than that would be a great bonus.

Bummer indeed. Would be an expensive borrow, lol.
However, I won't be using it at a fixed location, as I stream from different venues, so the signal strength varies at different venues, so i need to look at portability. Thanx for your offer tho, bit too far ....

We actually used it for streaming a while back. Fastened it to a speaker stand and it worked a treat.

It is not as easy as that. First diagnose IF the problem is signal strength and then do the maths. It is a balance between the gain of the added antenna versus the cable losses introduced. If the difference is a positive gain in signal strength, performance may be enhanced.

Have these available, portable and 5G ready, with SMA or TS9 connectors
