Hello

I'm getting EXTREMELY high pings when uploading. Around 1200-1800ms, but then around 12 when not uploading.
I have a 10 meg line with IS. My router is a Netgear DGND3700.

Please inform me if you need any other necessary details. I really need to fix this! I can't be constantly kicked for ping on my games.

What are you uploading for when playing games?

Higher latency can happen when you're maxing out your upload bandwidth, it's happened to me many times in the past.

The easiest way to fix it is to limit the program doing the uploading, to say no more than 80% of your upload connection speed, or by limiting it in your router if it supports that.

Agree.

This is because of the way TCP and IP works and the overhead thereof, there's no way around it. Moral of the story is don't upload files or run torrents while gaming, or at the very least limit the upload speed as Azgard suggested.

Just wanted to add my 2c: Just because you might not be downloading anything at all, you will still have insane lag just by maxing the uploads.

you might as well just have said "n0000000000000000000000000000000000b"

Hi

This is working as it should, uploading does effect your gaming more than downloading due to 1 simple reason. Every packet that you receive you must reply on as well, now if you are maxing your upload the packets gets put into a quality of service queue and causing a delay in the packets, this packet delay causes high latency due to the remote host sending the packets again thinking you didn't get it. Because of this a qos reply can take over 2000ms due to how long the packet takes to go through the qos windmill.

It doesn't matter if you have fibre or adsl if you max your upload your network speed will be degraded allot. THe only other thing that effect latency as bad as your upload is torrent clients trying to open over 500 connections to seeders, that's why when you download over http its fine but when you use torrents it kills the latency and responsiveness.

Cap your upload and leave about 10kbps for your network and you will not notice it anymore.

I get ping timeouts if I if switch off my router.

:p

Like ponder and co said. Its normal.

Hi There,
I am with everyone else who had a sensible reply. If you are hitting the upload limit then your pings are going to go up.

I suggest that you do the uploading when you are in gaming recovery mode (sleeping)

Regards

Tim
