Hi there,

I recently made use of Axxess's service and I'm quite concerned with the state of my connection. I know I've only got a 2mbps line but the speeds I'm getting have been worse than the dial-up I used to have. Quite often websites won't load because the connection drops or times out, I can't download any files because the connection times out. When something does download it is sub 20kbps, normally sub 10kbps. Are these speeds coupled with this instability normal in my area of Joburg (Glenhazel)? I've just had the line installed so while I'd love to immediately blame Telkom I'm not so sure.
My DNS is set to Axxess's and I've used google's as my secondary just to experiment. I've disabled all the different modem modulations besides G.dmt and adsl but that had no difference. I've taken an ookla speedtest and I'm regularly clocking around 10kbps.
At these speeds and with this instability the connection is practically impossible to use. Please can you advise.Perhaps I'm mising something crucial in terms of settings. Currently my snr is set to 6, as I'm still synching and the stability is no better or worse, but I have also had it set to auto with no difference.

Regards

Hi, please PM us your account number.

You should have called them directly first. Don't you think? Or did you?

Hi, if your SNR is 6 you are just at the edge of a stable line. Each time your SNR drops below 6, your exchange will drop the line and establish a new connection at a higher/lower/"cleaner" frequency. This is in order to bring your sync speed back to max/stable as your sync speed can lower over time due to interference (you might also experience packet loss).

If you gave the rest of your line stats, we could give you a better opinion on the matter if the Axxess Lady has not helped you out. You might also want to try a trial/1GB free capped account from WebAfrica/CrystalWeb or any other provider in order to isolate the cause, whether it is the ISP (Internet Service Provider, e.g. Axxess) or your line (Telkom wholesale).
