Extremely Unstable Connection

OK, I am not sure whether this is a workable solution, or just a coincidental ocurence.

I got a new router today (Cisco E3000). It has USB, but only for drive sharing. However, loading custom DD-WRT firmware on it, which among others, enables the USB port for USB Modems.

It now seems that most of my problems have just disappeared! The speeds are still not great, getting between 1-3.5Mbps, depending on router location, but at least it is stable! I have been connected for about 30 minutes with no issues whatsoever.

I will leave it running for a bit, monitor it properly, and give feedback! Router set me back R1300, but I think it is a great buy, regardless!

Will add it to the supported routers thread!

Does getting a router handle the 3g usb better than plugging it in one's pc.
I plugged the memory stick in my laptop, then my pc and in the various port locations but nothing changed(very slow, frequent disconnections)
Basically I'm asking if a 3g router will handle the usb better than the usb slots on the computers?

Am I the only one who thinks these modems should be working right out of the box? So many posts for work-arounds, it's a bit of a concern...

In my opinion, yes. Been running it for more than a week without a single disconnect! Not sure if all routers handle it this well. I personally think the win7 x64 drivers are to blame for constant disconnects in many cases. Should you go the Cisco E3000 with DD-WRT route, do proper research on installing custom firmware (check my post in the 'routers to use with cell c' thread. Then you should be safe
