This year we moved into our new place. Considering the place is a bit bigger than our previous house we decided to get an interior decorator to assist setting things up. Both myself and SO are clueless when it comes to decor, we know what looks nice and what doesn't. But when we go to the furniture stores we just can't seem to combine everything together to make things work.

So we paid the decor people to do the design for a few of our rooms and they came up with a design that looks nice. Not spectacular, just nice. The following rooms were quoted on. TV lounge, formal lounge, Entrance hall, dinning room and our main bedroom. Total quote came in at about R485k

Now you would think that was okay considering this included furniture and accessories, wall paper and stuff. But when I broke the quote down .. The cost of the furniture was absolutely ridiculous. I assume this is due to custom made stuff. So anyways, I'm not keen on spending that sort of dosh. I've looked at the stuff from Weatherlys etc. and there are nice pieces of furniture.

Do you get decorators that would assist you laying out your place using existing stores. i.e go with you to a store and assist purchasing the furniture. Of course you will pay for their time, which we would be more than happy to do.

I'm not looking to decorate a palace, just a well laid out home.

Jhb. Please pm me the details or feel free to give them a punt here, if they okay with it.

Buy furniture you like and ask someone with an eye for "decorating" to place said furniture in your house?

EDIT: My missus is very good at that. Making meh... look ooooh. Must be a gift or something.

Erm that is one of the reasons why we need help. My biggest fear is we buy the big stuff and nothing goes togther. And then we have to replace them anyway. If we had that "eye" for detail, I wouldn't be in this situation :D

Go to Weylandts and ask for a decorator there.

Didn't know they offered such a service? I will enquire the next time we there.

Just clearing it with her, will pm you details. Not posting private number on public forum;)

Thanks I got it. Will give her a shout.
