You get what you pay for when it comes to commercial software!
Cheapskate!

I'm using Avast to "protect" my windows and because I just love how it drains my bandwith
...and I don't really care what happens to my windows installation.

Just prepare yourself for the potential onslaught of people who like to think they know something about it, and so will slam you for using any AV product other than what they are using... (and no, "product x didn't detect x once" is a sorry excuse for slamming a product).

I personally haven't used F-Prot before, but being neutral in AV recommendations, I don't really like to recommend using something above another. As always, follow safe surfing guidelines, and remember (contrary to to above-noted views) that there doesn't exist a single AV product that will stop 100% of everything 100% of the time. New unknown variants may be stopped by heuristic scanners, but the nature of hueristics is such that it may let something malicious through at some point, or at some point identify something legitimate as malicious (false positive).

Choose your AV according to the environment that you are working in. Many tradeoff's exist - some products have narrowed this down to a smaller gap than others, but the tradeoff's still exist for the time being.

Finally, let us know if you have any issues with the product - drop me a PM if you want at any time; I'd like some feedback on your experiences with it. Also can help with future problems... :)

Yup use it at our company as well. Only thing to bear in mind is that its Antivirus only - so no firewall nor dedicated anti-spyware. We use WSUS server for Windows Defender central def updates, Windows Firewall & IE8 - for added protection. The WSUS allows us to also maintain our patch levels thus plugging any security holes.

BTW - has anyone tried Spybot - is there a way to run it on a corporate lan with central update mechanism?

TIA!

We also use it to great effect - F-Prot claims their scan engine uses very low system resources and therefore runs under Windows 2000, XP or Vista - I Like It
