F1 2011 thread

Mercedes has no chance in 2011 , car is more suited for rallying

Starting grid:

1. Vettel
2. Webber
3. Rosberg
4. Hamilton
5. Alonso
6. Button
7. Petrov
8. Schumacher
9. Heidfeld
10. Massa

Anyone know if DSTV on demand shows anything live? I was really hoping to watch the Gp there but I can't seem to find any indication that they show live stuff. I guess it's back to justin.tv.

If it wasn't for Petrov, shumi would have finished 6th (ahead of Button). Petrov needs to calm down a bit more on the track, he even almost took out his own team mate! Don't know what happened to Mclaren this weekend??? and Merc's race pace was disappointing after there strong showing in free practice... Ferrari look good again (dammit) and red bull, well... what a car!

Damn I missed the entire race - only caught the last 2 laps and by then it was just a formality for SV. If I had watched the race (and joined the McLaren fanclub in bewitching the red bull team) maybe the result would have been different. I understand it was full of drama again with the many stops...will have to catch the re-run.

OOH yes, you must catch a re-run. I saw once the did a re-run as late Thursday. I am pretty certain you can still catch one today/tomorrow. BTW, I LOVE Pirelli tyres... KERS... Haven't quite made up my mind yet on DRS. I guess I love DRS too judging by how much I enjoy the races this year in comparison to recent years.

I enjoyed the race....

But I feel that the DRS activation point was far too early up the straight. The behind driver was able to drive clean past before they even reached the braking point...

They need to work out the DRS activation zones so that they battle for position in the braking zones and not before, otherwise it takes the skill and fun away from it.

Thank you, Ono'rach! :) This is what I was alluding to when I said that I wasn't sure if I like DRS or not... Could not have out it better if I tried.

Pros and cons either way, but ultimately both KERS and DRS is to assist with overtaking. IMO they are essentially the same (as they are both activated by the driver) so if one goes the other must go too.

Don't quite agree with you there, Kompete. Remember that KERS got into the picture before DRS and IF my memory serves me well... there wasn't so much "easy overtaking" last year (or year before last?) compared to this year? Perhaps DRS is more of a culprit? OK, we have to also consider how many cars were using KERS in the past.

What I mean was that they have strong similarities - e.g. both on-demand, both driver activated, same objective - to boost overtaking (although different in effectiveness, as you pointed out). But the effectiveness is more a result of other restrictions than the technology per se.

Whether you use a boost button or moveable aero's; I dont see any fundamental reason why one should allow one and not the other - unless one is inherently more safe than the other

Eh... if it wasn't for dipstick Schumacher, Petrov might've finished higher. Schumacher drove like a tonsil (again) and even he has subsequently admitted causing the incident with Petrov.

Petrov never caused the accident, sure he went in deep but shummi had lost the place, he even admitted it was his fault.

You know people complain when there is no passing, they complain when there is passing. Personally i like it the way it is. Both have drs so both can over take each other.

F1 is amazing at the moment, without drs and the turbo boost we would watch round and round BS racing again. Now we have pit stops galore, over taking through out the field. Epic stuff. Perfect racing and 100% enjoyable for the entire GP
