F1 2011 thread

I am not saying hamilton is a crap driver but something is wrong, most of his over takes end in tears now. It seems he is involved in racing incidents that could be avoided. Surely he must have known button would not see him and would take the racing line. Webber gave him plenty room and he still spun him round.

Something is wrong in my opinion. He is not that great over taker from a year ago. I think he needs to move because mclaren are just not giving him a car capable of winning the title. He looks frustrated and fed up. The problem is there is no other team that could give him a car as good as mclaren, ferrari won't take him. Redbull i doubt would take him so that leaves mclaren as his only choice now sadly.

He is a passionate driver and can't mentally settle for second when he can get first, or third when second is available. I see alot of similar traits in Vettel, Senna. He's going for broke short term - it will come to him, the problem he's having is thta he's not getting over the fact that his car is not what his competitors are. It'll come to him. Vettel's slipup at the end was in the same vein IMO. It's called pressure.

There were many moves like that this whole race - Alonso Button Webber etc etc. Hamilton just happens to find himself in the pack too often for his liking IMO.

Well said! Hamilton is where Vettel was at the beginning of last season; frustrated and extremely aggressive since he doesn't have the best car, yet. Remember that Vettel didn't have the best car in the first part of last season and ended up taking out quite a few cars before he started dominating. Hamilton will be back but he won't win this season since Vettel has already bagged it.

With that said, fantastic drive from Jenson Button! He was quite humble with regards to the incident with Hamilton as well. They will continue to be the great team they are.

Lewis Hamilton - DNF "First of all, I have to offer my heartfelt congratulations to Jenson - he drove an absolutely incredible race and thoroughly deserved this victory. It was an utterly fantastic performance, from a truly great driver. I'm also sorry for the team; they've worked really hard this week and we could have done with the points that a two-car finish would have earned us today. Although the conditions were very tricky from the start, I had pretty good grip and I was doing the best I could to keep the car on the track; I think I had pretty good race pace, and I didn't have any particular problems. I touched Mark's [Webber] car after he braked a bit early into the first corner. He left me enough room, but I touched the inside kerb and understeered into him. Then I started fighting back. After I fell back behind Jenson, he outbraked himself into the final chicane and got a poor exit, so I was able to get a good run on him. It felt to me like I was halfway alongside him down the pit straight - but, as he probably hadn't spotted me, he continued moving across on the racing line. There was no room for me, so I hit the wall. Of course, I don't think it was intentional: I know Jenson well enough and I know he wouldn't do that. He's a good guy. So, now, I'll just focus on the next race and the rest of the season. It would be great if we could qualify a little higher up the grid in order to stay out of trouble in Valencia; but our race pace is good and I really want to do well there."

Hamilton haters take a hike.

Yup well he needs to realize he does not have the car to compete and get over it. Did he think he would have the best car every season? I know he came into f1 driving the best car but now he struggling without it and cannot seem to cope with it. I guess it helps when you have to drive shyte cars first like vettel, button etc. I hope he comes right because he is an awesome talent.

Hamilton could do well if he stopped crashing into other people :p. You do not need to win every race, consistent points can bag you a championship as well.

Brilliant race! Pity about FA not making it to the end. JB drove a stunning race. Hope F1 stays this exciting whole season.

That's like telling Senna to sit further back cos his car won't help him win. It aint gonna happen. Occasionally it pays off - ask Button. He drove like an ace a the end. So now 3DNF for Vettel and 3 wins for Button would mean Button Leads by 15 or more points? K, that's like pigs flying but still... interesting math.

Do Canadians have bad balance or something, that's the second marshal to faceplant this weekend :D

I did notice that both marshalls looked like they could lose a few pounds. Especially the guy that fell during the race. Maybe the Canadians share a burger problem with the Yanks?

You may not need 3 DNF's. The engine mapping that Red Bull uses that allows the car to continually blow hot exhaust gases over the rear diffuser when the driver is out of the throttle will be totally recoded for Silverstone and may disappear altogether at some point. The Red Bulls currently have near unmatched corner speed & grip and that is where their advantage is. Only the Mercedes and Renaults have comparable traction, but they accelerate better, not carry more speed in. It is not the fastest car in a straight line, that would be either of the 3 Mercedes powered cars. And although the Red Bulls have annihilated the opposition in qualifying, their race pace is not as superior. McLaren have been steadily closing in and Ferrari had a great weekend. With a change in the engine mapping, Red Bull may lose a bit of that edge in corner speed and slip further into the clutches of the McLarens & Ferraris.

Well ferrari use a similar system if i am not mistaken and honestly the redbull is not much faster, they just have the best driver in the seat. Redbull also know the changes are coming so if you think they have not done anything about it then you are in for surprise :D

Without vettel would redbull have nailed everyone in quali? I doubt it

Their grip in the corners is also to do with that sparse carbon fibre weave in the nose cone I believe - where the whole nose flexes and brings the front wing to the ground at high speed.

You've been watching long enough to realise how much of the win is in the car killa :p

excusing hamilton for having a car not as good as he would like undermines someone like double champ alonso who still manages to fight despite a relatively poor ferrari

Doubt Hamilton would ever change teams, McLaren has basically been his whole life. Ron Dennis made him who he is today...

that's no reason not to change

I agree, money and ambition talks, besides, Ron Dennis is not with McLaren F1 and so he will be less likely inclined to be loyal. I reckon he might take Webbers seat if it was offered him (and RBR is still competitive).

RBR will always be competitive with the likes of vettel and the car designer :D. Adrian neweu or how you spell it, perhaps it's not him but i am sure it could be :p
