F1 2011 thread

Are you married, kayvee? If you are, I NEED some pointers dude. Willing to pay!! :D

Heh, yup, the trick was this was a known and accepted fact before I did the deed, so it came with the territory. Close friends and family know to avoid me during quallies and the race, as I flatly refuse to take the call.

One of my offspring seems to have missed a valuable lesson, however, he has arranged his wedding on GP weekend later this year. Seems I failed in my fatherly duties somewhere down the line ;) Maybe we can blame bride-to-be?

Disown your offspring the little shyte does not deserve you if you he plans his marriage around a gp!!!!!!

Respect!!!!!!

Kubica starts rehabilitation programme

Renault's Robert Kubica has been transferred from intensive care to the rehabilitation department of Italy's Santa Corona Hospital as he continues to recover from the injuries he sustained in a rally accident earlier this month. “He is doing pretty well and his condition is positive considering what he has been through,” the hospital's Dr Rossello told Renault's official website on Tuesday. “He can move his fingers slightly and has a little bit of sensitivity already in his hand. What is very important is that there is no sign of infection, which is the main concern.

So it's the start of the Barcelona 4th Pre-Season Tests today.

Cool live commentary here:

http://live.autosport.com/commentary.php/id/314

07:54 It's a grey morning at the track, with some spots of rain - not quite what the teams and Pirelli were hoping for at this stage.

08:14 Ferrari, Williams, Mercedes and Hispania won't join in until tomorrow.

PS. Anyone a member of racing-underground? I'd love to be your buddy ;)

im stoked for the upcoming season. Hope it goes down to the wire again. Ferrari FTW

It's great to have Absolute F1 back, you go Slasha. It means the season can't be too far off now!

Awesome opening 15 minute review from last year. Catch a repeat if you missed it last evening.

I just wish that Vic dude would lose the word "basically" from his vocab, it drives me insane

Vic drives my batty for a whole different reason. He will start every single flippen' sentence with whatever the previous speaker said, repeated verbatim.

Sasha: "Vic, Ferrari's lack of pace this weekend has been surprising..."
Vic: "Ferrari's lack of pace this weekend has been surprising..."

It makes me want to stick pencils through my eardrums. And so will you now that I've drawn your attention to it.

Thank's enigma243, like I needed another reason....

Also fixed for you....

McLaren not ready

Lewis Hamilton has echoed team-mate Jenson Button's concerns over the new McLaren car, saying the MP4-26 is far from ready to mount a title challenge.

Since its belated unveiling last month, the new car has had a number of problems, including at this week's final pre-season testing in Barcelona.

"Do I believe I have a car to win the world championship at the moment? I don't. No," said Hamilton.

"But that doesn't mean it won't become a world championship-winning car."

On Tuesday, Jenson Button said he believed McLaren would not be able to challenge rivals Red Bull and Ferrari at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix on 27 March.

Button was 0.366 seconds behind Red Bull driver Mark Webber's best time in testing at Barcelona but his time was limited in the morning session because of exhaust problems.

Hamilton was fourth behind world champion Sebastian Vettel on Wednesday's second day after reliability issues confined him to spells in the garage.

We definitely have several issues that are not as easy to rectify as we had hoped

The 2008 world champion was halted by a recurrence of the hydraulics problem that affected Button at the last test and then an exhaust failure before lunch.

A further exhaust issue then confined him to another prolonged spell in the garage in the afternoon before he returned to the track to set his best time of 1:22.888 - still 1.023 seconds behind Vettel's best time.

But although the McLarens will be at a disadvantage to the likes of Red Bull and Ferrari when the season starts in Melbourne, Hamilton is trying to remain upbeat.

"It has been a tough day in the sense that we've not done enough miles," he added.

"I came here hoping to do more laps, to get in a good 100-odd laps, to get in a race distance. Usually at this time of the year this is when we come with pit stops and one or two race distances a day, but we were nowhere near even completing one.

"So it was a bit on and off, it wasn't a great day for us, but in terms of how the car felt there was an improvement with some of the upgrades we have. So that is at least a positive, it's not all negative.

"I can do qualifying, no problem; can do practice, no problem.

"But in terms of how long we can go in terms of reliability and our true pace, that's an unknown factor for us because in the time we have had we've not been able to maximise things.

"That's no-one's fault, just issues you have in testing, and this is testing, this is what it's all about, finding where your weaknesses are so you can build on them and fix them.

"We've been focusing on those, but we definitely have several issues that are not as easy to rectify as we had hoped.

"Looking at how the car has developed over the winter and seeing how it has come out, I was really, really excited getting into it thinking we really had hit the nail on the head.

Hamilton was in demand for autographs at the Circuit de Catalunya

"But we've missed that nail a little bit, although it's not like we don't have any other opportunities to get it right.

"From this, the improvements we've had, it's something that can grow to be better, so as long as we keep pushing in the right direction with the development, and the new things we have coming several races down the line, hopefully they will enable us to close the gap and compete for wins."

Hamilton is also adamant that despite the problems, the chances of winning the 2011 world title have not completely disappeared.

"I have every belief in my heart that I can win many, many more world championships," he added.

"So I'm definitely not shutting the year off. Everything is still to play for.

"As long as we keep pushing in the right direction with the development, and the new things we have coming several races down the line, hopefully they will enable us to close the gap and compete for wins.

"If we pick up a good few points in the first few races, then we won't be miles behind.

"Say for example we were able to be in the top five for the first three or four races, get those points, and then if we happen to have a car capable of winning, then it would still be possible.

"I'm ready, and when the car is ready I will be at the front and I will win races, but whether that will happen, we'll see."

Yeah, they are not at the track today either, I would assume they figure the time is better spent back at the factory (on the drawing board?). Yes they appear to be on the back foot a little, but now doubt they will bounce back strongly during the season.

The Red Bulls are looking strong in the test sessions. Quick out of the box, and may have their reliability issues sorted this year too.

There are 5 days of testing scheduled, but most teams only had 4 left in their pre-season allowance before the tests started. McLaren opted to take today off, but will be back tomorrow & Saturday.

Must say Newey's latest is looking worryingly rapid, but pre-season testing so often paints a misleading picture. I think questions will only really be answered at the first race. 2 weeks to go...

hehehe - after reading the complaints about Vics repeating word ... surely it cant be as bad as Sasha's ... "AS WELL"

uurrgghhh , i remember 1 practice session last year where he said 'as well' 5 times within a minute

I so miss the ITV pre race commentary - I wish DSTV would get that so we can see all their cool interviews and discussions. Like with that new English Premier League pannel they have - bloody awesome

The best thing that ever happened to the premier league in this country was getting the live feed, wow those guys are brilliant. If they did the same with f1 i would very happy.

We actually see interviews with managers , have they been forced into using the live feed?

If you have a fast enough line, then while you're watching the race on DSTV also find an online stream from the BBC - its awesome, they show so much extra including the red button with all the interviews. Many interviews with team principles and former drivers that are in the pit lane! Also put up the live timing while you watching, I swear its far easier to track the race using that and very interesting to do so :)

I agree, I missed SPA last year and managed to get hold of a BBC broadcast, it was awesome how they went through the different garages and also spoke to some of the team principles and even the drivers on the grid.

We sit with sasha and co saying the same kuk over and over and miss all that action :(, maybe it costs more or something
