F1 2012 thread

Racing is close but as Schumi said its to a delta time. With fresh tires in that last stint Vettel did a 15.7, 2 seconds of pole lap :O Just goes to show how much they hold back to preserve tires

Which im against tbh.
Bunch of pansies racing and conserving tyres.

Well, it's the fuel too - they start on full tanks - no chance of even near pole times no matter how many sets of tyres you have to shred. Refuelling strategies - I miss them. Didn't think I would.

Problem is it doesn't take a big man to bang out fast lap after fast lap in a machine that's hooked up. I reckon they should bring the third pedal back, get rid of slicks and chuck most driving aids (including the fuel mixtures, blah blah on the steering wheel).

They are not just conserving tires but fuel as well.

Mclaren still have lots of work to do with their pitstops, if hamilton had landed behind webber it would have been game over and they cut it close.

I loved the strategic side of racing, now its whether you do one stop more or less than other people, and so far like last year the front runners do the same strat with the exception of yesterday.
Another thing I hate is DRS and the new defending rule. It takes more away from racing than what it adds. If someone honestly think DRS passing is making racing better then I fear for F1. Look at Monza last year, Hamilton fans hated it but for me that was excellent. Had me on the edge of my seat. That is far more entertaining and a gauge of skill than press of a button passing, against an opponent that can only make one move.

Alonso could have taken it if he pitted with Lewis, well done Hamilton & team, good call .... risky but it paid off.

Didn't you see Alonso come out ahead of Hamilton at the first pit stop? Fat lot of help that did him ;)

I can't see Hamilton moving unless something major happens. He might have to sacrifice some cash to say - that seems to be what Ron Dennis is saying. If he wins the WC, however...

And in the case of Sunday, those who did one failed :)
Tell that to Perez and Romain ;) Viable strategy just executed wrong, but given that Canada has the shortest pit stop time it was the inferior strategy in the end.

If Hamilton had landed behind webber Lewis would have made short work of him down the back straight.

Technically, Formula One is rigged.

Pirelli were asked to purposely develop tyres that did not have long life spans in the pursuit of more on track action and more passing. You've got a tyre designed to create action as the sport, sans dodgy tyres, is very short of action.

Rig as a verb;
- Cause an artificial rise or fall in prices in (a market, esp. the stock market) with a view to personal profit.
Or in F1 terms,
- Cause an artificial rise or fall in performance with a view to personal profit (more exciting product means more viewers means more dollars).

The biggest critiscism of F1 was the lack of racing action. Overtaking was done in the pits via differing fuel strategies. Now we've got a tyre that wears abnormally fast and affects the sport in a way tyres never used to in pursuit of more on track action. I suppose we can even consider KERS and DRS as another atrificial means of creating overtaking opportunites as without these aids, cars wouldn't be making a lot of the passing moves they are.
