F1 2012 thread

Hahahaha oh Red Bull... :D

:D

Well... one Macca down isn't ideal, pity they couldn't make the most of the RB fail. Hard race on the cars it seems, though those were all odd electronic failures. It's a long time since we've seen unreliability in F1.

Good one Sauber and Perez! A few less points for Alonso.

Awesome weekend ahead, over taking a plenty.

Perhaps another button domination, provided anyone who can beat him is taking out by hamilton again.

Hey Killa, I hope you're not spending money on the bookies this year?

Not the result I was expecting to get but still an excellent result nonetheless. Congrats to Lewis. 0 points for RB.. excellent!

Was hoping McLaren would be leaving with 40+ points today.

Having had a look back that was suppose to say grosjean. Betting on f1 this season would not be a wise decision.

One bet though is perez will be a world champion and one of f1's top drivers very shortly. Alonso / perez next season would be amazing. If hamilton had to move mclaren could also have a look at perez but ferrari would do well to put him on their books.

Amazing race though.

Championships is wide open and alonso is not a sure thing. The guys chasing him are looking strong, pity button went out. Would have been nice to have another contender up there but at least he is qualifying well and doing well in the races now. Seems to have sorted his poor starts out as well.

I'm also keen to see Perez in the right car. I'd only say it's wide open when Alonso has less than 25 point lead.

Sauber Ferrari beating Team Ferrari at Monza!

:D
Good point... that must have smarted somewhat!
I guess they'd take their ferrari victory any way though. They just need an Italian driver though lol.

Did anyone notice early in the race that Michael was weaving down the straight? I picked it up twice. And no, he was not blocking, on both occasions there was no one immediately behind him/attempting to make a pass and he was weaving as they do on the parade lap. I was disappointed that DC never picked it up.

props for Perez ? not from me. i think Kobayashi is better. Why is it that Sauber s strategies always pay off for Perez while not doing great for Kobayashi ? is it because the best strategy is used on Perez and the back up strategy on Kobayashi ? i wouldn't say Perez is a better driver than Kobayashi. Kobayashi has out qualified Perez eight times this season and out qualified 5 times by Perez.
a Formula 1 driver can only do so much Team principals and Mechanics are the ones who determine the outcome of the race.

I did see it and wondered who it was - didn't realise it was Michael. I wonder if he felt the need to check his steering or something... or perhaps he saw something on the track that no-one else saw... or perhaps that was where he dropped his ninja spikes the previous lap and only he knew about them :p

More likely trying to warm the tires.

Only bad thing about the race was that the wrong McLaren retired...

Pffffft... Hopefully it's the start of some Hamilton-flavoured domination for the remainder of the season. :D The really bad thing was the daft penalty Vettel got; I'm not a fan of either him or the handbag-swinging Spaniard, but Alonso went for half a gap that was always going to go away. I really hope it's not the start of an FIA-assisted championship run.

Yea it was ridiculous to give him a penalty.

We must hope redbull also comes right and lotus, 5-6 way battle for the title would be epic. Imagine going into the last race with 5 contenders :D.

o hells yea!!!!!!

The penalty was as a result of a rule change / clarification after the last race. They were all aware of it. The rule from Charlie Whiting is that you can't cut another driver off if a significant portion of his car is alongside yours going into a corner. Significant portion was clarified as 'the front wing alongside the rear wheel' (or more). I'm not sure I agree with that - dunno how a driver going into a corner can tell what's going on that far back, but now they know to at least check.

Perez is better. Kobayashi is capable of rapidly quick once off laps and is fast for patches in the race, but Perez is the superior driver over a race. He may not have Kobayashi's raw pace, but he puts it together for the duration of a Grand Prix.

There was another driver famous for this; Jarno Trulli. Over one lap few were faster but come race time he steadily fell backwards and has a sole race win to his name. He was more than a match for Alonso during qualifying, but during the race the gap in class was evident.
