F1 2014 thread

On the sound and making them louder - why? I hear that you want them to sound more exciting, but to generate the sound artificially? What's the point of that? Why not just put MP3 players, amps and speakers on the things? If that's the sound the car makes, then that's the sound it makes. Everything in F1 is becoming artificial.

Next thing F1 cars will have 6x9s and fancy mag wheels.

Its not F1 without the sound.
Its very sad actually, to those that have never heard the sound of F1 cars on a race day, they will never know the sound.

THese cars now sound like hotted up hatchbacks. Thats not racing...

It's the price of efficiency; every Joule lost to engine noise is a Joule not flinging the car 'round the track.

Things change. I suspect many here might not remember what the 3l V10s - the engine formula before the now-scrapped 2.4l V8s - sounded like at full chat. The V8s sounded completely neutered in comparison. This is an even more dramatic change noise-wise, but if it brings better racing we won't be complaining after another few races. I also enjoyed the nuance of being able to hear crowd reactions, along with the odd brake lock-up or over-eager application of the throttle.

I don't care much for sound when a car can do this
Here are my two new favs...

So which is the better one and why? I'm in two minds... I'll take both :)

Agreed. The loss in sound has come at the expense of a technological leap that will make its way to road cars.

I also liked hearing squealing tyres.

Hi guys. Back then you couldn't attend the race without ear plugs. The sound of those V10s was just too overwhelming

My heart actually says P1 and my head says 918... Waiting for LaFerrari to be in the mix.

No need for the Ferrari the Ferrari... The LFA is the ultimate in sound...

I missed out on hearing the 3.5L V12's at Kyalami back in the day. Must have been an amazing sound.

Red Bull formally lodges appeal

Red Bull has confirmed it has formally launched an appeal against the disqualification of Daniel Ricciardo from the Australian Grand Prix.

Ricciardo crossed the line in second but was thrown out of the race in the evening as it emerged Red Bull had ignored an FIA warning about fuel-flow sensors.

As a public figure, Ecclestone hasn't been free of controversy. One such foot-in-mouth incident had Ecclestone saying that female drivers could never succeed in the world of Formula One, in addition to referring to women as "domestic appliances."
kekekeke :D

All he cares about is his ever growing bank balance.

True that.

Though, having said, he does rule F1 with a iron hand, as its his cash cow. I hope whoever succeeds him can have a similar assertive approach which I think is needed, but have real racing entertainment as a mission.
