Most drivers would just pull into the pits after seeing that delta after sector 2.

Max has had a few dismal starts off the grid, so if Alonso can get a better start, there's hope for his win yet!

If I were Fernando, I'd start making noises about sending it up the inside of turn 1 tomorrow. Realistically, he isn't in this championship and Max has more to lose, especially with Checo at the back of the grid. He needs to be circumspect. If Fernando has a go, it would be in Max's interest to let him have the corner.

That being said, Max is a racer, so...

Not really. With track evolution being so high, Max timed it perfectly to be the last one over the line and get the best of the grip conditions. Also, he had to seriously up his game to claim that pole. Alonso, le Clerc and even Ocon pushed him to take his Red Bull to it's absolute limit (and almost beyond).

He definitely didn't have it all his own way.

its not black magic - higher speed through the swimming pool chicane and rascasse. +-4kph, most likely the tyre is in it's optimum window only then.

They have the fastest car over a race distance...if you expecting aston to get pole on a single lap you optimise for the over cut in the race
