Pretty good times overall I'd say. F1 has been good these last two years, despite Merc's lack of performance.

I'm sure there's a bit of "last year's car" being driven around with various bits attached for "PR purposes" by all the teams as designs are worked on.

Doesn't the in-season testing ban only apply to the current car?

Not despite, because of their lack of performance. Just hope this RB period of dominance doesn't turn into the snooze fest that the Merc one was. Probably won't since they change their second drivers like underwear...

Also “in season” what happens out of season while the car is being developed?

There’s no way on earth a car is brand new car is built every year without testing happening and that testing will be on the home tracks.

Where do you think all those camouflaged spy shots come from?

No.

The testing ban in 2009 was done to cut costs, as the big teams had basically a complete additional testing team plus there own track. That gave them a massive advantage over the teams that could not afford this.

Teams can now only rent a track (or some stretch of road) for a total of two film/promotion days a year where they have to use special tires and can’t drive more than 100km.

Other than that there is only the official testing.

That is why simulators where introduced. The factory and the drivers all have simulators that they can use to test and practice during the year, in and off season.

That is why teams only discovered at the pre season test, one week before the first race, that they had followed the wrong aero design and gave Red Bull such and advantage.

Yeah, he is good, no doubt though that second things go wrong he'll be back to his old self again.

A Mercedes representative admitted that the driver's schedule was controlled by the team, and given that this was his home race, the schedule was extremely busy. In addition, the team noted Hamilton's difficulty in getting through the paddock.

Therefore, the stewards determined that the most appropriate penalty was to the team rather than to the driver.

As some leeway has been given previously the stewards consider a reprimand to be appropriate, with the warning that further penalties may be considered in case of repetition.

Even up to a few weeks ago I'd be in this thread all through the race weekend, not anymore though. Way too much trolling.
