It's going to be McLaren's year, like it has for the past 15...

China's return to the Formula 1 schedule will be cancelled next year as a result of the country's Covid policies, BBC Sport has learned.

Formula 1 has not visited China since 2019, but was due to return for the fourth race in 2023 on 16 April.
China's zero-Covid policy has led F1 to conclude the race cannot go ahead.

The key sticking point is that F1 staff would not be given exemptions from quarantine requirements in the event of suffering a Covid-19 infection.

F1 feels that it cannot ask teams to go to the country for the race in Shanghai with the risk that staff could be detained for days if they caught coronavirus.

China's latest rules demand that anyone found with Covid-19 must spend five days at an isolation centre plus three days isolation at home.

Hoping that Mercedes wipes the floor with the other teams, either merc driver can win, I don't care. Clucky in third, he seems to be a really cool oke, with Checo in fourth, Ver behind him. Sainz probably won't be in the top 10.

Pirelli adds new tyre compound to F1 for 2023: https://racingnews365.com/pirelli-adds-new-tyre-compound-to-f1-for-2023

"...Pirelli will introduce a sixth dry weather compound tyre to their lineup for 2023, with the 'C0' set to be added to the range.

The tyre maker usually nominates three tyres - a Soft, Medium, and Hard - for each Grand Prix weekend picked from a selection of compounds ranging from C1 (hardest) to C5 (softest).

The C0 is based on the current C1 band of tyre, with a new version of the C1 set to be introduced.

"The new C1 was tested in Texas and it offers more grip, as the old version of that tyre wasn't as grippy," said Pirelli motorsport engineer Simone Berra.

"The current C2 to C5 tires remain exactly the same in terms of composition." ..."

Think it's going to be Merc vs RB. This season was a rare miss by Merc, but they will bounce back especially with more windtunnel time than RB.

IMO Ferrari have blown their chance. I can see another rebuilding coming with a Binotto sacking to start.
I also think McLaren have an excellent driver pairing next year, if they can get the car right then they should be challenging Ferrari.

Mercedes and Aston Martin tech innovations banned for F1 2023: https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/m...tech-innovations-banned-for-f1-2023/10404554/

"Two extreme aero ideas introduced by Mercedes and Aston Martin this year have been banned from the 2023 Formula 1 season.

The innovative concepts, involving the Mercedes front wing endplate and the Aston Martin rear wing, have been made illegal through changes in F1's technical regulations.

Both concepts raised eyebrows when they were introduced because, while fully complying with the wording of the rules and being deemed legal by the FIA, they appeared to go against a broad concept that car designs to increase performance did not make it harder for cars to follow each other.

Mercedes' radical front wing endplate first appeared at the Miami Grand Prix and featured a unique design in the intersection between the flapped section and the endplate.

This was done in order to try to recoup some of the outwash that was lost with the new regulations.

The flaps had been swept forward very aggressively in the outer section, so the rear lower edge of the endplate was completely detached from the flaps.

Meanwhile, Aston Martin came under the spotlight at the Hungarian Grand Prix when it introduced a rear-wing design that appeared to break one of the key intentions of the 2022 rules.

Its design featured a unique arrangement on the front portion of the endplate that allowed the main plane to butt up to it in a more traditional way, thus increasing its span and the downforce that can be generated.

The new regulations had hoped to bid farewell to the traditional endplate and wing interaction of the past, with a curved transition between the elements.

This was designed to reduce the strength of the tip vortex, thereby limiting airflow disruption and helping in the overall goal of making it easier for cars to follow one another.

While the FIA was happy with both concepts to allow them to be used this year, formal tweaks have been made to the 2023 technical regulations to ensure that the grey areas that allowed them have been tidied up. ..."

Why don't Pirelli give each team sufficient tyres for all the races and let them pick whatever they want to use as long as they use 2 compounds. Pirelli can still supply inters and wets when needed. I'd like to see them do that at the next race in 2 weeks time. I already miss F1...

All part of the cost-cutting endeavours.

Great idea

They should have rather developed a new wet weather compound instead of focusing on dry - yes it is seldom used, but look at this years wet races...

Making a hard tire with more grip is stupid. For excitement we need different strategies, teams did not use soft tires that much as they don't last very long. It will be much better if they develop soft that last just a touch longer with great grip. Then we could see some teams go for a 3 stop against other teams on 1 stop.
But if the hards now have more grip all teams will just get hards on first stop and everyone on same strategy

Bring back refueling.
Gotcha.

Lets do V10/12 too.
