He keeps dodging the question when reporters asked him over the weekend. I would have thought that if he was sure that he was staying he would just confirm and move on.

Would be the biggest curve ball of the year if he decides to join another team.

In one interview he talks about getting the car up to spec to be competitive next year. He's then asked if he will be with Merc next year and says they just need to finalize the deal, so he's basically confirmed he'll be at Merc.

I can't imagine him anywhere else tbh. I can see someone like Max still potentially jumping to another team in a few years if he lands up staying in F1.

That's quite a large gap between Sainz and the rest. I wonder if that's purely down to the driver or if there were some other factors too.

Almost certainly setup including fuel load. I can't see why Sainz would suddenly have figured out how to drive 1.5s faster per lap.
Two factors to testing - low fuel, only useful for single lap / quali, and race pace with load - useful for the main event.
