So this red flag was thrown around the time of the Alpine grinding to a halt. But it's supposedly for some cctv camera issues. My question is, is it purely coincidental that the cameras failed around the time of the Alpine stopping. If not and the cameras were down from the start, then why did the session start in the first place.

And why do the cctv cameras matter? (this is purely a lack of knowledge question on my part).
The Marshals need them to stay oriented and the Stewards for making judgments on possible infringements.

Well it is a home race for the team (If we ignore the fact that they are actually Russians pretending to be Canadians and driving a British Car) ;) so they will have a home race advantage with the fans.
...with a German engine...

Great race.

Great race indeed... That silver McLaren was a beaut !
Just imagine Kobayashi in these "new aged" F1 cars could be a treat to watch, really liked his aggression

Yikes, didn't realize even Brundle thought LH was a menace back in the day...

If only Mclaren would return to form. Regardless though - so much talent giving it all during those years. A far cry from the the last few years.

Should be an interesting Quail session.
No Practice 1, aborted Practice 2. A wet Practice 3 with more rain coming and on top of it all it is now a Green Track.

The top two drivers are a second and half better than the rest of the field. If rain is the great equaliser for the cars, then it's clear where the quality in the field lies.

It's a grid where KMag is 4th, I wouldn't read too much into practice results...

Ferrari strategy again doing the most. What a bold call and chance taken by Williams and Albon

Albon makes a call, team backs him and wins.
LeClerc makes a call, Ferrari decide they won't be one-upped by a mere driver, bins it again.

Someone should fire the Ferrari F1 crew and bring in their Le Mans crew.

Hulkenburg being hit with a silly penalty is the last thing I needed to hear today. Unfortunately it was the first.

Carlos Sainz has been handed a 3-place grid penalty for impeding Pierre Gasly during today's qualifying session.

Yuki Tsunoda has been handed a grid penalty for impeding Nico Hulkenberg during today's qualifying session.

Lance Stroll will drop 3-grid places after the Montreal stewards adjudged him as unnecessarily impeding Esteban Ocon during qualifying.

Nico Hulkenberg has been hit with a three-place grid drop for failing to stay above the minimum time set by the FIA ECU during the red flag period in Q3.

Amended starting grid for the Pirelli Grand Prix du Canada after penalties applied.

How did sainz not get any penalties. He was outright dangerous on two occasions into the last turn
