I didn't realise they were restricting Quail tiers too.
This is ridiculous.

Some one needs to explain to Liberty media that this is an engineering sport, the engineers and drivers need time and information to set up the cars.
If you want to improve the racing let the teams do their jobs without artificial restraints.
If you want a hit TV show then create one from scratch.
But stop trying to dismantle and rebuild a formula that has worked well for longer than most of the Liberty Media staff have been alive.

Sort of what I was getting at.

Within quali they could have one set of each without saying:
Q3 = Hard
Q2 = Medium
Q1 = soft.

What if a team wanted to risk a soft in Q2 to get into the top 10 ?
Removing choice and risk is diluting the sport, not enhancing it.

It will be 20 Identical cars and F2 style reverse grid sprint in a few years.
But by then I will probably have already given up watching.
So you'd be in favour of a q3 where teams are having a shootout on slower tyres than optimum (either used or harder)?

They have one of each tire to use when they wish.

Not the system in use today where they have virtually unlimited number of used and new tires but are restricted by session as to type.

It's pretty guaranteed that the teams will use the better tyres early and be left with slower tyres for q3. Hence the restrictions we have today. The decision makers decided they want the fastest tyres available for q3

Ugh this is gonna be another race where the focus is on track limits instead of the race...

Who are the decision makers?
The Engineers, the Team Principals or Liberty Media?
The Engineers hate the restrictions, The team Principals are not particularly over joyed, So I get the Impression that it is dictated by Liberty Media "For the Fan's" that they continue to alienate.

Carbon Neutral 2030 blah blah aside, bottom line is:

Entertainment for fans > Saving a minute amount of world annual CO2

This new tyre reduction has really massively reduced the Practice session action due to them "saving tyres".
OK, so upside, most exciting Q1 for a very long time due to a mix of hard tyres and track evolution.
