Apparently it's been in the rule book for ages, but never been needed.

If they do this they could just as well just give the first two podium trophies to the RBR drivers and let the others fight it out for third (and below) places.

They would do more for F1 if they just gave RBR both Trophy's now and told them not to bother arriving for the rest of the season. That way at least we could watch competitive racing for the best of the rest awards.

May be an image of 3 people and text that says FIRST SPORTZ @TeamViewer Team CASTORE RAUCH BYBIT HONDA G PETRONAS INEOS sky sports ' MAX WILL BE BETTER THAN LEWIS HAMILTON. JONNY HERBERT' MAX WILL BE BETTER THAN LEWIS HAMILTON. JONNY HERBERT

This is taking **** so out of context :D

He said what we've always said: Max will be better than Lewis just like Lewis was better than Schumacher and he was better than Senna etc. Some kid in a kart somewhere is going to better than Max.

But I reckon that kid wont be beat because he'll be ****ing unstoppable.

What would be your suggestion to set the grid if it's impossible to hold a qualifying session before the race?

Alpine in all sorts of disarray. Heads are rolling and the whip is being cracked

Alpine have announced that they will part ways with Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer by mutual agreement following the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix.

Szafnauer will continue his duties as normal for this weekend’s race at Spa-Francorchamps, before leaving the team ahead of the August summer break.

In a statement, Alpine said they “would like to thank Otmar for his hard work over the past 18 months and for leading the team in achieving fourth place in the 2022 Constructors' Championship” and “wishes him the best for the future”.

Pat Fry leaving too for Williams.

So long ago I can't remember. The first port of call is to set the grid using free practice times, but that idea was cast aside for safety reasons earlier today.
Yes. A decision which Brundle treated with absolute derision, and rightly so.

Yes, that system worked well when they had 3 sessions to select from. Having the only practice session on the same day as qualifying leaves them open to this sort of fiasco.
On the bright side though the F3 qualifying was without incident now F2 about to start. If it doesn't start raining again the lower classes will have dried the track out in time for qualifying.

In the past quali has also been rescheduled to the Sunday morning so, if needs be, this is also an option. Going by championship standings is an absolute last case option.

If there is no F1 Quali today they may well cancel the Sprint Shoot out in favor of an F1 Quali session and use that result for both the sprint and main race.
