fast forward to late Sunday....

every second Mybb, "I told you so... I told you so!" or "it wasn't his fault it was xyz"

we all know Doohan is going to win so everyone calm down, and obviously Hamilton will pit his Ferrari into the Mercedes garage, wait what who does that :p

By the same token, Alonso is even much better than Schumi was at the same age (40 onwards). I just hope that Aston Martin can be up there in 2026, I still believe that Alonso can challenge for a title if he has a competitive car, he showed that in 2023. Last year was just a failure of the equipment to do anything meaningful.

Not a fair comparison to be honest. Michael stopped racing when he retired at the end of 2006. He then briefly attempted to race superbikes, had a nasty fall and damaged his neck, which never healed properly. Aside from a test session in 2009 when he was seen as a potential replacement for the injured Felipe Massa, there was a 4-year gap where Michael didn't race cars competitively.

Alonso kept active after he left F1. Sportscar/Endurance racing, Indycar and the Dakar kept his racing skills tuned, if not expanded them.
