Probably was always the plan to go where Newey goes especially with the financial benefit that would include. I'd guess Toto's talks were more to irk Horny Spice.

Max loves working with Honda and Newey. The problem is that you need more than just a Newey to make a team great. Then there is the Lance Stroll factor which I can't see Max will be happy with.

I still believe that Max would thrive at Merc. But how do you sacrifice Russel who is looking really good or a young superstar in the making?

Aston is the perfect experiment to see if resources alone can create a championship-winning team. I think Merc, in the short term, has got a driver pairing that is offering a lot of value at an affordable cost - that'll be beneficial at least until they've nailed down the unknowns about future regulations.

Max, next to Alonso in a solid car could be something special though.

That wont phase Max at all, he is used to having a teammate finish in the backmarkers, if at all, and has been carrying the team single handed for years ;)

cos max will 99% most likely bring you a championships vs someone who is looking good and 1 being a young superstar

I think the right move for Max is to stick with RB through next season and see where the new cars are at. No team principal in their right mind says no to Max.

Yet to be proven, the F1 greats have all shown from the get go that they have something special, so far I've seen nothing like that, yes he's been solid, but solid quickly turns to average in F1.

I don't think he's going wait. New rules and everyone trying to find their feet might mean he's stuck in an average car even next year. Newey is doing nothing except working on next year's car. Aston would be a good move...

Also, he is already a multiple time champ and he already stated he aint hanging around another 10 years. Nothing to lose to give another team a go for a season or two and if it does not work out, ride off into the sunset.

Imo, the warning signs are there that RB will go into a rebuilding phase over the next few years, like they did between 2014 and 2020. Too many top guys left the team already and they are clearly an unknown entity for 2026's engine. This is the time for them to invest in guys like Hadjar and Lindblad etc to be the next guys in 3-4 years time, get the new wind tunnel up in 2027 etc
