It is because of the new callander having so many back to back events.
Sky decided that those with families would skip some races to have family time, they also built a dedicated studio back in the UK which is live during race weekends so that certain team members are available for the race analysis etc. without having to travel to and from the circuit. The Sky Pad is often based back in UK saving Karun Chandhok the hassle of commuting to every race but still being available for in depth analysis.
I guess that the rising cost of airfares and accommodation also plays a part.
