There was no catching / stopping Max today - his pace on all tires was just immense - he pulled 3 seconds on the Mclaren after the SC restart in 3 lapsMclaren pit wall make me shake my head at their naivete - that said, Norris was unable to make a dent in Verstappen's lead even after he passed Piastri
But if you are correcting for safety cars what about the Time Max gained by pitting during the Safety car vs Lando. So if you take VSC and safety car effects out of the final timing, Max finished 16s ahead of Lando (Lando was 10s behind Max when he pitted just before the VSC). Big gap!
I think he's saying Max opened up a 10 sec gap before the VSC and another 6 sec after the SC.But if you are correcting for safety cars what about the Time Max gained by pitting during the Safety car vs Lando.
I tried to watch the race again via onboard on F1TV, but the audio of all the cars is the Sky commentary whereas is should be engine and team radio audio?!
I did, for multiple drivers. I then get an onboard video stream, but the audio is still the Sky commentary. You need to select the driver in the options, below the F1TV/Int options...
Piastri 1st stop = lap 14/63 medium to hard
Piastri 2nd stop = lap 33/63 hard to hard
Lando 1st stop = lap 29/63 medium to hard <-- he was 1 stopping this whole time!
Lando 2nd stop = lap 46/63 hard to hard (only because of the safety car)
If the full safety car (weird) had not come out and just a VSC then Piastri would have been screwed by McLaren strategy
I'm sure race control will spice it up with a safety car or two.Yeah no, he caught all of them there. The first corner of the race and the SC restart was just masterclass from Max. Fully deserves this win.
Max looking more comfortable is a good sign, but that RB can be tricky so lets see if they can be more balanced going forward. If so then this championship is wide open.
Mclarens looked fine, but I think Max's pace did catch them off guard a bit today.
Leclerc does not look like a happy man at Ferrari atm.
Well done to the Williams team, so nice to see them fighting in the top 10, as it should be.
Overall a much better race weekend than what I was expecting. The quali was great, race was good with some good action all around.
Uggghh Monoco next. At least Saturday will be fun,.

A case of coulda, shoulda, woulda, that is best left to the boffins on the Pitwall to calculateI think he's saying Max opened up a 10 sec gap before the VSC and another 6 sec after the SC.
They did...If I am not mistaken, I think they did implement a 2 stop rule for Monoco?
Turn 2 made the race win for Max. I don't know if he would have been able to pass Oscar after sitting in his dirty air for the first medium stint. The safety car restart was also pure perfection. Driver of the day needs to have made little to no mistakes while also the biggest gains - Max ticked both of those boxes. Albon admitted he should have taken a bit more time trying to get by Leclerc - if he had, he would have finished 4th (Lewis would not have got him) so he never maximised the potential. Max did.
