Merc who held off on their stops until late in the race, ended up 2 (George) and 3 (Kimi) laps behind. Don't think anyone will be doing that at Monaco again.

With the two stop rule, the driver who's behind his team mate also held up everyone else to give their team mate a buffer for a free pit stop. Probably why everyone after 5th ended up being lapped, and 5th was close to being lapped.

They made a mockery of this race. Nothing is going to change at Monaco. The more they try and change things up, the more it will be abused somehow...

so while this was not a good race, it was the best Monaco race I have watched in a while.
the fact that there was so many different strategies happening at the same time, top 4 pushing like crazy, the holding up starts, the Frustration, and the concentration was all really good.

I like the 2 stop rule, it helped. the best solution is to just swap the track direction.

It will be too dangerous to do a direction swap.

The DRS on the finish straight... is that set to it's maximum potential for overtaking? If so, they might as well just remove it all together... I haven't seen passes at the first corner for ages because of the DRS there.

They could also change that first corner for a better opportunity for a pass with a little less risk involved.

The easier solution is to bring compound tires that will have a higher degradation on all the compounds, with a higher delta between them, specifically for Monaco only, which will result in multiple pit stops anyhow, but will also be in the hands of the driver to manage each compound during the race as they see fit and those who can manage them better can have the upper hand, but it will also depend on how the car manages them best over the stints, and it should provide variation during the race and strategy as well.

What the hell did Hamilton do all race... probably had his phone with him busy looking at pics of clothes to wear later that day.

Agreed. Best Monaco in years. Was a pleasure to watch Lando slam it home. 2 stop made it a game of strategy - and one Max was banking on, but didn't pay off.

After a penalty for impeding Max Verstappen in qualifying dropped him from what would have been a season-best fourth on the grid to seventh, Hamilton made up two places to finish fifth in the first-ever Monaco race that featured two mandatory pit stops.

"I started seventh, was behind two cars for some time, managed to clear them, then I was in no man's land after that.

"The gap was relatively big and I was not racing anyone. I needed a Safety Car or something to come into play but it didn't happen. It was pretty straightforward from there."

Despite being cut adrift of the leading four cars after spending his first stint still in seventh behind Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso and the Racing Bull of Hadjar, Adami told his driver on lap 17 to "push now, this is our race".

"The information wasn't exactly that clear," he said. "I didn't really understand 'this is our race'.

"I didn't know what I was fighting for. Was I fighting for the next spot ahead? But, in actual fact, when I look at the data I wasn't anywhere near any of the guys up front. I used up my tyres a lot in that moment but I was so far away from them anyway."

After Adami confirmed his finishing position of fifth and said that Hamilton had "lost a lot of time in traffic", the Briton thanked the team for the weekend, having repaired his car for qualifying after crashing in final practice, and said they "live to fight another day".

TL;DR - Made up a couple of places but lost a lot of time in traffic, ended up burning up his tyres pushing for little reward, brought the car home in the points.

This a clip from Monaco 1962.

Safety features have changed.

I'm going to agree with this as well. It was a good thinking race as a spectator - I always say that I can judge how engrossing a race was by how often I looked at my phone and for this Monaco race, I was super engrossed in keeping tabs on gaps and pit stops left to do so didn't use my phone much.

I say keep Monaco for what it is - a Saturday race for the most part.
