Silverstone was an entertaining race, as it pretty much always is!
> Piastri deserved the penalty. My hot take is that it did indeed warrant 10 seconds and penalty points because it could have caused a notable pile-up, particularly in those conditions. I know I'm in the minority on this.
> The Verstappen spin-out was really unexpected!
> Home Lando win! Hah looks like the LANDOSTAND (TM) was worth it
> Hulk podium! Amazing drive by him!
> To all the rookies, sorry guys Silverstone is actually one of the most challenging tracks in the wet.

I think 2025 will have a ton of different winners from Alpine, Haas, Red Bull, Mercedes, McLaren, Ferrari... Maybe even Aston Martin can get there if Adiran Newey has a hand in any of the upgrades. We are going to have lots of weird looking podiums from mid-year onwards...
Well this certainly qualifies as a weird podium mid-way through the season 😁

Bro before the 2024 season started we couldn't even see anyone but Max winning races and maybe a Ferrari.
We would have never guessed we'd see both Alpines on the podium or McLaren, Mercedes and Ferrari winning 1-2....
The cars are getting closer and closer. The backmarkers are making their way to the front of the pack. All teams can make Q3.
This season will be hairs-breadth margins.

If 2024 has taught us anything its that predictions are worth precisely nothing, so take mine with a pinch of salt....

But yes, the 2025 cars will be gentle evolutions of the 2024 cars. This is exactly what I'm talking about. The cars at the back will be that much closer to the front runners. The front runners will have all found that they have reached the ceiling of their concept and will keep things roughly the same. Which leads to all teams having very similar performance. Which then leads to incredibly similar qualification times. Meaning, Hulk could get pole in a Sauber. Williams drivers could make appearances on the podium. And, yes, an even greater variety of race winners from even more teams.

We have already seen this with the 2012 and 2021 seasons, but I think 2024 already hit that level so I reckon 2025 will be even closer, particularly after the halfway mark.
Hmm, Hulk pole could still happen you know :X3:

I think he deserved a penalty but perhaps 5s - we've seen worse erratic driving get 5 seconds especially without causing a collision but it is what it is.

I also think it was a bit harsh. Consider it's the same penalty Verstappen got for torpedoing George intentionally. Then again, with the visibility you can understand the stewards being strict.

Main issue I guess is the lack of consistency.

Penalty was in the lenient half of the guidelines. Even Hulk commented on how it caused issues further down the field.

The SC turned off its lights so visibility was arguably sufficient. That's at least some mitigation but I agree on the point about consistency. I think there's enough precedent to set specific penalties for specific scenarios by now rather than having a range of 4 or 5 penalties under the same offense.

Great explainer on why Oscar was penalised - he was being watched by race control because of him doing the same thing previously in the race:

I don't know, the onboard from Verstappen showed very little visibility and it would be even worse from the helmet.

Agreed though, they could be better.

Still, it's simply an arguable mitigation. If it was unsafe with very little visibility the SC should've stayed out. So you're left with erratic driving that did not result in a collision. Previous precedent had 10s penalties for erratic + collision so it's arguably lesser thus deserving a lesser penalty. Consistency. Thats just how I see it.

2 penalty points for Piastri? Yikes. They sure hate the non British drivers...
