Abu Dhabi GP: McLaren to hold talks with Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri over use of team orders at F1 2025 season finale

McLaren team principal Andrea Stella says talks will be held with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri over the possibility of team orders at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

McLaren have refused to back one driver throughout the season, with chief executive Zak Brown saying last month he would rather lose the championship to Verstappen than favour one of his drivers.

Stella confirmed this will remain the case for Abu Dhabi until there is a situation where a driver needs to help his team-mate, so the team can win the Drivers' Championship.

"There will be no call which excludes the other driver when the other driver is in condition to win," he said.

"So, we will see what scenario will unfold, but definitely what I can say is that there will be conversations, and there will be a way of going racing which is united between the team and the drivers, like we have always done."

"We will let the drivers be in condition to race each other but above all what's important for us is that we are in condition to beat Verstappen with one of our two drivers."

Not likely, it's more likely for specific scenarios where it affects the WC. The "Let them race freely" would never extend to a scenario that affects the title, that would just be doff.
I'm more of a purist: if they want to claim they're pure racers, they should let the chips fall where they may. Otherwise, they might as well have simply chosen a favored driver from the outset. The only exception, imho, is when a driver helps a teammate and is disadvantaged directly because of it - on track.

Let the chips fall as they may and losing out on the driver's championship would be a terrible decision.

And F1 has never been "fair". Some of the greats have forced their team's hand to prioritise them or otherwise benefitted from compliant teammates. Peter Collins threw away the 1956 championship by handing his car over to his teammate, Fangio. Senna blocked Lotus from signing a properly competitive teammate while at Lotus. Prost asked Ferrari to swap chassis with Mansell and they agreed, starting a cold war between both drivers. Mansell walked away from Williams because they signed Prost. Prost managed to block Williams from signing Senna in 1993 but then walked away when they signed him for 1994. Schumacher was undisputed #1 at Ferrari. And and and...

Wouldn't it be spectacular if Oscar refuses to let Lando by to secure the championship and we all get to watch it unfold over team radio. CINEMA!
This is the kind of petulant behaviour I'd expect from baby Oscar. Would be fabulous to watch. It's going to be a great race, the whole of RBR will be strategising to secure Max, and for once Yuki will perhaps be pivotal in this. The whole weekend will be leading up to that first corner of the final race.

Yuki's only job will be to bring out a safety car at a strategic point in the race. He'll qualify too far back to take out any of the contenders at the start...

Yuki’s job will be to do a U-Turn and see how many laps it will take him to yeet Lando 🤣
In all honesty, I doubt he’s going to be very charitable to RB now.

I'd suggest that for someone who wants to put himself in the shop window for possible future employment, he could do worse than do all he can to show he's a team player and willing to give it his all right to the end. That is what a future team would want to see I think...

Not that he was able to help Max in any of the races so far. Nothing suggests he will even be close to the top 4 to help

French court delivers verdict into FIA presidency challenge:
— A Paris court has ruled that the legal challenge by former FIA presidential candidate Laura Villars against the FIA must be examined by judges on the merits. This decision delays the case to a hearing on February 16, 2026, while the FIA presidential election will proceed as planned on December 12, 2025, in Uzbekistan.
