Well they never had to deliberately lift off because regulations forced them into a situation where they have to...Remind me again, when were drivers able to really go full out like the good ol days? What with the pushed tyre degradation and fuel load limits, controlled budgets for part replacement etc etc?
And wasn't this tracks suppose to show up issues with the system, with lower chances for charging batteries?
The website you viewed with the "lap record" is wrong?Qualifying doesn't count..... per rules.... lolz
I'm honestly surprised nobody mentioned the rain from last year yet..... Or did I miss it?
On a serious note though, jokes aside.
How come the FP2 lap time counting for the lap record this year.... but ignored from last year? You google lap record for Melbourne and its Piastri's FP2 time now, last years practice lap times no where to be seen. Aren't the practice lap times to be ignored, like practice, with the record being official race times?
Rather odd? Anyone have any ideas?
"When they reformed a lot of the original group had, it now transpires, disbanded, gone to work on solar panels or whatever. So a lot of the group that reformed are actually fresh to Formula 1, they didn't bring the experience that they had had previously
"Plus, when they came back in 2023 that was the first year of the budget cap introduction for engines so all their rivals had been developing away through '21 and '22 with continuity the existing team and free of budget cap.
"They re-entered with let's say only, I'm guessing, 30 per cent of their original team and now in a budget cap era. So they started very much on the back foot and unfortunately they've struggled to to catch back up."
But asked if Aston Martin had been aware of the level of the inexperience shortfall when they signed their Honda deal in May 2023, Newey, who joined Aston Martin from Red Bull last spring, said: "No, we weren't
"We only really became aware of it kind of November of last year when we - Lawrence [Stroll], Andy Cowell and myself - went to Tokyo to discuss as rumours starting to suggest that their original target power they wouldn't achieve for race one.
"Out of that came the fact that many of the original workforce had not returned when they restarted."
Assuming qualy 3 time is a mid to low 1:18, what is 107% of that? And would the FIA or the Stewards (Whoever make the decision) allow Aston Martin to race if they fall foul of that 107% limit?
EDIT: If my maths is mathing, that would be about 1:23. A tall order at this stage it seems for them. That being said, given the raft of recent changes, I wouldn't be surprised if they are granted special dispensation to partake in the race. The likelihood of both cars finishing, based on current evidence, is slim to zero.
