Looking for advice from anyone that attended a F1 GP race.

- Which race would be the cheapest to attend (incl. flights, accomm, race ticket, etc)?
- Are there any specific packages for south africans that you can recommend?
- Or is it best to do all arrangements yourself?
- Suggestions for a specific race? - looking at either the Monaco or Korean GP

thx

Haven't ever, but would kill to.

I'd think Podium Travel would be a good place to start. It's an agency either owned by, or involving, that old Afrikaans F1/car/motorsport pundit Hendrik Verwoerd.

Monaco would almost certainly not be the cheapest.

Cool...this does looks like a good place to start. thanks

if you stay in Nice and travel in to Monaco (18km) then you can make some big savings

I see they haven't updated from the 2010 season yet, but all the races hover around the R20k-R25k p/p rate for 3 or 4 days, including Monaco. That's a ****-ton of money. :(

I went to the Malaysian one last year, and food and accomodation are not at all expensive, and extended stay cost us under R20k, plus we stayed in a 5 star hotel, u can save loads of money by doing it yourself though. Thompsons tours was having a special, i see they are having another one for this years race.

Monaco, will be expensive, i think most races in europe would work out a bit pricey. Look at maybe Dubai, or even Turkey.

France isn't exactly the cheapest place to stay either :D And I'm guessing that tickets for Monaco will be more expensive than the other European GPs, as it is the showcase event in the calendar.

I went to France 2006 with Podium Travel. All very well organised and guided by Dieter Rencken (Africa’s only permanently accredited FIA Formula One journalist). Definitely a good bet. Much better for example than going along with SuperSport's very own Sasha...sure that would be a blast (sarcastic tone).

Was that 20k per person and for how many nights? for the Malaysian GP.

got a package quote from the official F1 website for Monaco for under GBP2,000 for 2 people, 3 days, incl. flights, accomm (4 star), car hire, GP ticket

I'll check the other venues too maybe they are even cheaper

That's not bad at all!

Hell I'd pay an extra R5000 just so that I wouldn't be anywhere near Sasha.. bloody annoying git.

Who the fark died and made Sasha our local motoring guru anyway?

I went to the German GP at Nurburgring.

I wasn't aware of any packages. I just booked the tickets through formula1.com then got a travel agent to book me flights and accommodation at one of their recommended hotels.
I can't speak german so that was a little barrier, but the whole town transformed for the weekend and was only focused F1. They had shuttle buses and everything was organised well.

I'm definitely going to go again soon.

As for which race is the best, I'm sure they will all be spectacular but maybe pick a city that interests you so that you can do something you want to in the evening.

Hi

Have been to Spa, Silverstone, Hungary, Singapore, Istanbul and Indy. All self organised! WTF is the web for, huh? :) Most tracks have a online ticketing partner, and have better prices for early purchase.

If it's just F1, then choose the track you most want to see. My first was Spa, and without a doubt the one I rate the best, ito a racing circuit. Wonderful ambiance, elevation and weather changes. However - its miles from an interesting city, which is where Budapest, Istanbul and Singapore shine. So if you want to holiday a bit, factor that in.

Tripadvisor is a wonderful site for selecting accomodation, and remember, the FIA usually organises buses to get you to the track - often faster than by car. Get the best stand seats you can - which are often not Grandstand. (Eau Rouge for instance). Get a Kangaroo TV (Prepay) - there's generally no live commentary, or you cant hear it! It helps hugely.

Flights ~ 7k, F1 Ticket ~ 3k, Hotel ~3k...

Enjoy!!!!

I have been for a few. The cheapest was the Malaysian GP. In Europe things are a bit more expensive.

Have not been to any of the new circuits, they may be cheaper, in an attempt to draw the crowds.

I did all mine private, however there are tour operators that sell packages. Make sure you get good seats. No point sitting where there is no action, or you can only see a small portion of the track.

I would say Silverstone (I however think it's not on the race schedule no more). I went to 3 races there. But I have family in England and Germany.

Guess it depends on where you can get off with living for free for a few days :D

Silverstone is still on - however I dont want to go to the UK (have family there and want to avoid them :) ) or Germany (dont like the people).

Malaysia would have been great, but probably to early in the year - but the advice above is right I will have to combine it with places i also want to visit. Will check out Budapest, Istanbul and Singapore
