Anybody else here using the FBML Tabs on Facebook Fanpages?

Do you find it useful at all?

I started using it recently to add extra info and details to our Fanpage.

First off. I know absolutely f'all about coding and web development and... and... and...
A friend of mine just quickly showed me how to use the basic features in Dreamweaver so that I can create HTML code for these FBML boxes  . Since then I played around a bit and learned new stuff along the way. But I actually still know nothing.

Here are the few things I did since I started using the FBML App.

As far as I understand it, it is simple(not to me) HTML and CSS stuff. (No idea what that means).

I would like to use this thread to learn more about this particular coding (is that even right?) and get new ideas on how to improve these tabs on our Fanpage. Also would like to see what you guys have done with your Tabs. Share it!

Apart from the basic text stuff, I've managed to insert and Image into these tabs(so proud of myself :)) and link that directly to our Live Scores page. (You will see the "clickable banners inside the Tabs)

But I just cannot get it right to create Hotspots for the Welcome page image.
I want certain parts of the Welcome page image to be "clickable". Especially the Twitter button that should then link to our Twitter account.

Each time I insert the code copied from Dreamweaver back into the Code box and save it, the Image is just Flat. No clickable areas, no hotspots, nothing. Just an image.

I know it can be done because I've seen it on other pages, just don't know how.

If this all sounds stupid and all to easy for you, sorry but it is all foreign to me. But I'm trying to learn something new here. Don't shoot! :o

I would recommend rather doing a proper HTML + CSS setup for the welcome page, incorporating the Facebook look-and-feel. Just dropping an image with an image map in there makes it look, well, amateurish. Get your head around a proper HTML + CSS design and implement it on your pages.

To be honest, that single page "WELCOME PAGE" could be created more efficiently using basic HTML and CSS.

You're new, so I'd suggest just finding a Facebook Canvas template of the net and editing it. Image maps are not really for beginners, as it includes Javascript. Something I wouldn't suggest messing about until you understand the basic markup of a webpage.

If you feed the homepage html/image/css from a different server, it should work just fine, shouldn't it? Using iFrames or dont you want to use iframes?

Facebook pages and tabs are useful, I use it for all kinds of clients and theyre happy with the insights results

Can you send us a link for the fb page with the hotspots

Bit of a resurrection but I need help here.

Basically I have given up on the whole Welcome Page thing because of various reasons.

Now I would like to know if it is possible to show(sort of stream) a whole page from a website into one of those Facebook Tabs. So not just an image! A whole page that updates when you refresh.

Basically I want to display THIS inside our Facebook page. Probably in one of those FBML tabs.

Bit of background.
We specialise in Live Scores of rugby matches and when we started out we used to do everything on Facebook but that just flooded news feeds of the fans and it meant we lost more fans than gaining. Since we stopped the flooding and only did Halftime and Full Time updates of the games on the FB page our numbers shot through the roof.
We found Twitter and the mobi Website to be the most effective in doing the play-by-play updates on because it was aimed at people on the go. But there are still a crap load of people(mostly older people) who would rather see these updates being done on Facebook because they do not know Twitter or do not want to visit other websites. They want everything available on Facebook. They are forever posting on our wall and commenting on our status with stuff like. "Give us the score", "where are the updates", "Can somebody please tell me what the score is".

Now I was just wondering if it would be possible to "stream" that page into one of those Facebook tabs/boxes. Under no circumstance will we go back to doing play-by-play updates on our page. It is now dedicated to News, Results and Photos.

But would still like if I can give those lazy FB addicts a way of seeing the Live Scores as well.

Thanks in advance.
