Facebook goes local

Actually, it is - depends which DNS server you use. It doesn't work for SAIX, but it works for IS (they're doing the trials) and a bit on TENET's network (universities) as well. The main pages require international, but most of the actual content (videos, maps, stuff like that) is retrieved through a local Google CDN mirror similar to AKAMAI.
Quite right. Soon you will see more people benefiting from this however some details are still not available even to people working at ISPs. But I have seen the IS Google Cache servers, mostly for google videos and youtube videos.

Noticed this when I tried out Axxess' new packages and firefox threw the Secturity Risk in my face. I noticed the akami server in the SSL certificate and was shocked that axxess would be trying to phish me... blame me for making that conclusion when I change network and suddenly see myself redirected to servers I never heard of. Back on WebAfrica and getting direct access to the facebook server again (matching SSL certificate at least).

After some reading I can only say thank goodness you still need to login at the official server. It's bad enough that there is an intermediary that is now also able to see everything you do etc. etc., but apparently nobody really seems to mind. I know internet is really not private at all, but when a service tries to hide itself and stay as transparent as possible for something where you have to log in, you can't help but feel it would be better if facebook would just somehow announce to users that they may be seeing this warning and must confirm that it is akamai which is <insert simple explanation of the service>. I think the few people who use https to such servers will now just learn to accept and ignore SSL warnings and be all the more susceptible to fake banking sites and the like.

I can access the site but I can't log-in..

Looks like https://login.facebook.com/login.php?login_attempt=1 is not local

EDIT:BTW i'm on IS acc

go to http://m.facebook.com

That will load. Then click "Try alternative login". Log in to the page that loads (if you're paranoid please note at the top it says your password will be sent in plain text).
Once logged in (you are now in FB mobile btw, click on "Touch Site" at the bottom. When that loads, click on "Full Site" at the bottom.

You're welcome

Set your facebook to remember your login details, and you'll be able to access facebook without international because you'll always be logged in

Mine is but sometimes I get logged out probably from logging with my phone

Won't connect to the local site

I've tried different links to facebook (mobile, touch, co.za, etc) and the mobile link worked for me once, then I closed it and tried it again only to be redirected to MWEB's landingpages site (which informs you when you are capped). I still have local cap but I can't connect to facebook. When I ping facebook.com it gets a Reply from 196.2.63.95. When I do tracert facebook.com each hop gets timed out until the 11th hop which ends with www.google.co.za

I've tried to put in some IPs mentioned in this thread in the HOSTS file but it doesn't work.

Can someone help me please?

That's impossible. What DNS server are you using? Clear out your hosts file, sounds like you have some wonky shyte in there. If you want to avoid the mweb landing page, use another DNS server such as SAIX's 196.43.1.11

Not sure which DNS server - Do I type the SAIX DNS in on the router settings or can I put it in "Internet Protocol properties" under preferred DNS on my pc. I did clear the HOSTS file to see if it would work and it didn't :(

Lol, I put in the "wonky shyte" cause I got the idea from the "Forcing Google Services to local (RSA) IP address" thread thinking that maybe I needed to force Facebook to connect to a local server by modifying the HOSTS file.

Limelight CDN also launched local content delivery recently afaik. Which means quite a lot of major sites is now essentially local.

Noticed FB Akamai servers on another IP address range
Not 196.33.108.0 - now also 196.26.223.0
