Facebook Search, Google Social Networking, Round 1

Its really stupid. Facebook won't be able to search as good as Google.

Google is just not known for Social Networking. They should stick to what they know and improve.

and as for who will win the advertising money... They both will. as most people will take out ads on both platforms.

I have asked Facebook to stop Google indexing Facebook! It goes to privacy issues.

What's interesting about this rumour is that Google has a whole bunch of data already available in your Google account. If they build it into Gmail like they did with Buzz it could just take off.

Expecting people to go to a whole different site (Orkut), regardless of whether it's linked to your existing Google contacts that opt into the service (Wave) just won't work, I think.

I don't agree. With that attitude we would never have had gmail, google maps or google docs which are all great applications.
People would say, oh google is just not known for maps. or google is not known for email. They should stick to what they know and improve.
I think they'll do a better job than facebook that's for sure, though I'm not convinced they can get people to move - facebook is just too big now.
What would be smart would be to use the facebook api to integrate facebook into 'google me' so people can move over without losing touch with their facebook friends.
