I find myself jumping from Facebook initiated chats to Google Talk, Skype or anything else for that matter because Facebook just doesn’t have a chat application trustworthy enough to use. You cannot be sure the users you are interacting with are getting the messages and more often than not you have to suffer false offline messages for a second or two before they pop back up with messages lost and the complete nuisance of having to repeat yourself, checking whether the person on the other end really went offline or not.
It would be terribly nice of the guys at Facebook to jack up their chat service as it really isn’t up to scratch yet. I have encountered this on every ISP I have used and tested. People I know have confirmed my experience with their own stories of chat hell. It is almost as if Facebook want their chat service to end up with a reputation similar to the Microsoft Office help Clippy that annoyed everybody so much. We want to use it but it just irritates the living daylights out of us! What on this green earth got somebody to sign off on a product that clearly doesn’t work properly and could really be of valuable use if only it did!
What I would like to read in the tech news feeds I get sometime this next week or so would be a note that Facebook has took it upon themselves to make their chat app work. Now that would be nice Facebook.
