FAIL continued (Ubisoft)

Always astonishes me how imbeciles can reach the positions of power in the first place to be able to implement moronic policies like this

You and me both. BioWare is EA's only redeeming feature. I only hope EA learns from them :)

Tell me about it. I sort of imagine that someone at the top uses the monkey method:

to come up with these kind of ideas.

ha...yeh...so call me an idiot but having anticipated this game for almost a year now I went out and bought it first thing saturday morning, and even though the saving online cost me quite some bandwith I eventually figured out that this can be switched off,and continued playing using less bandwith for the duration of the weekend. Then today all day I was anticipating playing continueing the game after work, but alas I arrived home popped behind my pc only to greeted with a message stating "no internet connection" or something down those lines....needless to say I was furious, seeing that I pulled out hard earned cash for the game............And the thing that dissapoints me the most is the fact that this used to be one of the game publishers that were always light when it came to DRM, why all of a sudden are they punishing those of us that actually went out and bought the game? And the funny part regarding this is that they honestly believe that this game wont be cracked! I give it another day till one of the scenes shred this games DRM to shreds, I hope so because I feel violated and robbed of what otherwise actually proved a fun game.
SO fc$k ubisoft; I will never buy a game from you again, I will return my game to the store tommorow seeing that obviously it is not working even though my system fully comply to the specifications on the box, then I will patiently wait for a scene release.

The free DLC is part of EA's overall strategy, EA has really turned themselves around, brilliant new IP's like Dead space and mirrors edge, higher quality releases, cheapest AAA titles in SA and free DLC, they are doing everything right ATM

I started playing Assassin's Creed II on Saturday. It worked flawlessly the whole day and I logged almost 10 hours in the game. Then Sunday came and it was almost impossible to play. 5 minutes to log in, 5 minutes more to get in game, the game constantly pausing because it lost connection to the Ubisoft servers. Really really terrible, the most horrendous form of DRM to date. Absolute shame, as the game itself is excellent and the developers have put a lot of effort into the PC version. Ignoring the DRM, I would score the PC version a 9.5/10 easily.

Now there are reports that it "wasn't Ubisoft's fault", as the DRM servers were deliberately attacked. Frankly, that's irrelevant. They chose this route and shouldn't have if they couldn't guarantee 99.5% up time, legitimate customers have their gameplay time completely in the hands of Ubisoft.

My suggestion, is purchase the game (I will never promote/support piracy), but then crack it when a working one becomes available.

I was also holding out for the PC version too but instead I'll have to wait for the console version to drop in price rather if I really want to play it at some point (although I really have lost interest with all of this now).

The concept of saving your games online and getting ranked or whatever (first to collect 200 of this and kill 200 of those - not sure what exactly it does for you) is pretty cool but it should be optional (assuming that they weren't doing this for piracy) especially for those of us that care little about achievements and being ranked or whatever (plus it's a single player game that I'd probably play through once or twice and then maybe come back to in a few years).

How many other games are going to go this way in future though - does it mean the end of offline gaming as we know it? Imagine now that they decide to implement this with their console versions too.

haha they cant. seeing as microsoft still havent launched Live in SA.

I don't suppose there's anyway for the XBOX to connect without going through live? Apparently the PS3 (after this recent internal clock mayhem) is still able to download updates even if the PSN is down...of course that's just what I read (but it kinda makes sense to be able to connect to create your PSN account). Anyway - let's hope the number of PC games that implement this crappy DRM doesn't increase!

Bring on God of War 3 and Red Dead Redemption!
