Fair price: 2007 MacBook Pro - 17"

I've been successfully lurking on this site for many decades. Now I'm trying to find some guidance in formulating a price for a mint 2007 MacBook Pro, 17" with matte screen. Model number: 3,1. Core 2 Duo - 2.4 Ghz (buss speed 800Mhz). Fitted with 4GB Ram. Original battery, original 160GB hard drive.
Sold with: 2 power adapters, 250GB Lacie USB drive (for Time Machine etc), Sonnet Tempo SATA Express 34 card, DVI to VGA adapter and a huge Leather Lowepro carry case. Also two blue plastic covers that clip onto the base and the screen to protect the outside of the machine.
Because I now travel more for work, I've found this machine to be impractical, and I've since bought a new MB Air for work.
Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.

No idea, but PM me once you have a fair price ... might be interested ... and close to Norwood.
 
Although it has many extras, its not the newest kid on the block. Might be worth more, but I won't pay more than 7k for it (if I was in the market for one)

Thanks. Yes, I know its not the latest, but it seems a waste to have it lurking in a cupboard gathering dust. My query here was prompted by some idiot offering me R3000 for it and I suspected that it was worth a bit more than that.

dude its a mac not some cheap plasticy pc notebook, its worth more than that at least 10k
 
Sure, it's a Mac, it's very nice - but R10k is pushing it. The 17" screen is very nice at 1920x1200, but it's not a unibody Macbook - it's from 2007. Which means that the trackpad isn't multitouch. Although it's still a brilliant trackpad. Also take into account that the battery will have deteriorated, and there's no warranty. I'd say R8k or so, R7k for a quick sale.

Hey I was trying to sell my 2010 top spec macbook 17" and couldn't even get 17000 for it... Decided it was not worth it.
 
Can anyone tell me why someone would pay more than a few grand for a 5 year old Mac laptop? I would imagine that it's out of warranty. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Apple only offers a 1 year warranty.... With the option to buy another year ONLY whilst still within your initial warranty. Unlike iPhones etc, it's worldwide at least.

But agree, would not personally buy any pc/laptop with that kinda mileage, regardless of condition

It's great knowing people returning from the states. Where do you think I got my snazzy 17" mbp? 8K under SA retail at the time. :D
