Would like to know what is considered as fair usage on a 1mb line.
I've currently used 161GB and according to the usage tracker I'm now a power user.
My entire package is with Telkom and in all fairness although that status bar is in the red zone, I still get some good download speeds after 11pm.
This is my 1st month with Telkom's ADSL package and so far I'm quite happy with their service.

161gb sounds excessive to me.

The most I've ever managed on my 1 Meg line is 90 gigs

On Telkom it used to be around 110GB, but it seems the limits have increased recently, especially if you schedule downloads between 00:00 - 06:00.
If I recall correctly, you are throttled to a quarter of your speed, but I'm not 100 sure if that is a fact.

Sounds about right. It means you've had over 65% utilization on your line.

Mathematically, your "average" 1Mb uncapped user uses 12GB...

My highest was 390gigs on 2mb line.Do yourself a favor and move to Openweb.

First time I was throttled was around 110GB (+- 5 months back), second time was 148GB (about three months back).

Last time I was on a 1Meg I went to just over 150GB with the bar in the red near the end so I think its around the 150/180Gb area.

90gb on an uncapped line? that sounds low to me.

I think 200gb is fair on a 1mb uncapped line.

I schedule my downloads from 11pm - 6am.
Max speed i reach is 95kb and my average over the 7 hours is around 65kb. Not sure if that's good speeds or not? like I said it's my 1st month on this package.

Lol. You're showing your misunderstanding of how uncapped works. 200 gigs on a 1meg line is almost a 1:1 contention ratio. These definitely aren't priced as such.

You should look up contention ratios. They're the reason you're paying a lot less than it costs Telkom (or any ISP) to actually provision your 1MB connection, and also why your idea of what's fair on a 1MB line is laughable.

That said, they advertise uncapped... so treat it as such!

Reason for that??

If I divide your highest usage by 2 which will equate to 195GB since I'm at half your line speed that means I'm only 34gb shy of getting to that goal and I still got 4 days to go.

P.S I've heard excellent reviews about openweb so far. Would give definitely consider that move if and when Telkom do give a real reason to move to another ISP. But for now I'm enjoying my experience with telkom.

Forgive me? It's my 1st encounter with uncapped ADSL. LOL

I just thought 200gb should be a breeze on a 1mb line lol.

It depends. If you want to max your line 100% of the time you need a business account. I think Telkom's limits are fair.

I don't have time to max my line 100% of the time. Lol.
My line is use for roughly 12 hours a day except weekends.
So in essence 150gb per month should be fair?

Yeah. But after a while you won't even look at the usage anymore. Everyone maxes their line flaxen they first get uncapped. But after a while you'll calm down.

I have a 6Meg line and my usage varies wildly. Some months it's 80gigs, while other months I do 300gigs.

If you take downloading at 100kbps and uploading at say 40kbps, you can do around 346 GB on a 1 Meg line a month, so 161GB is not even halfway yet.

That said, a business account will be your only guarantee of not being soft capped.

Telkom's throttling seems to be more fair than most.

I agree with you! Therefore I am happy with my service from telkom.
