Does South Africa have any regulating body to protect consumers from TV Manufacturers with false claims?
Recently MyBroadband outed Mass Stores for labelling and selling an HD Ready television as Full HD.
I walked into Incredible Connection 2 weeks ago to view a UHD JVC 55" TV (Model 55N770), which was part of Mybroadband's Friday Amazing Tech Deals.
Claimed resolution was 3840 X 2160.
What they don't tell you is that this is for jpg files only and NOT video playback.
The tv, according to the manual, can only play video at 720.

Why isn't this being regulated instead of milking unknowing consumers of our hard earned cash?

Take it back and get your money back Not delivering what was promised
Consumer Protection Act is the only recourse you have other than the above.

That doesn't seem right, if it can output the full resolution for images it wouldn't make sense to not do the same for video playback. What inputs are you using?

The specs on the thing clearly states the resolution is 3840 X 2160 with no indication of any limitations, if this wasn't true then I'd be very very surprised.

When this scandal first broke I found that I had a fake Full HD JVC tv. I hadn't even noticed because most of the stuff I watched was SD anyway. I bought it from Takealot and fortunately they gave me a full refund almost 3 years later.

JVC TVs on the whole are rubbish.

I'm going to assume he's talking about the internal media player, which is probably rubbish and old...

But unfortunately for him, the screen will be UHD so he won't really have a leg to stand on.
