A friend of mine just got a Canon A470 (was a gift, he didn't choose it) and he's as happy as a pig in you know what. I can't tell you much more about it though, I haven't played with it.

I saw Incredible corruption are selling the L18 for R1099 as well. I think you get a 1GB SD card, camera bag and a pair of batteries to get you started. Only till the 14th December though.

You might also want to take a look at the Canon Powershot A580.
It seems a bit better and well, a bit more expensive...

So I bought a cheapy on Sunday (a year later ). A Nikon L20 for R1K from makro on promo. Better specked and cheaper then last year .
