Talk to me about Blackberry?

I think I am going to buy a 8310 Curve, as I have found one at a rather good price. Never played with a RIM product, so it's worth a go.

Can the device connect to my IMAP email? Or do I need to get a blackberry package - perhaps from Vodacom. What's your setup?

Also, can the blackberry's do HTML email...or will I be stuck wtih a just text experience?

Any other info I should consider?

They do the job they were designed to do perfectly.

Yes - you can connect to imap. You get to directly configure up to 5 accounts on the device. I tend to funnel all my email through a gmail account for the spam filtering and as a backup but you dont have to do that.

Not yet but apparently HTML (plus a whole host of features) is coming in the next RIM update.

Cool...That update will update current phones right??

I am looking at the Blackberry 8310. I like Qwerty Communicator devices, but I also want something seemingly small. Looked at the 8310 and it's just right. Paying R2500 for it which seems to be a bargain!

I gotta wonder what Voda's stance is going to be when the BB O.S allows youtube support ..... they might find that R69 unlimited data tarriff doesnt cut it anymore.

They might disable it?

Just my personal opinion .... but YouTube on GPRS/EDGE ....
Will be interesting to see how it works out none the less.

As for disabling it, I'm not so sure about that - there's only so much YouTube you're going to want to watch on a small screen at whatever speeds it can do.

The unlimited browsing from your phone did wonders for sales of BlackBerry in this country and I have no doubt that YouTube access would be something that would have a similar effect.

Was gonna say this...YouTube stutters on HSDPA sometimes, I don't even want to think what it would be like on EDGE.

I've tried out every phone OS, except Blackberry. I would really like to give it a shot, but the only thing preventing me from getting one is the inability to edit Word and Excel documents. Anyone know if Documents to Go for Blackberry has been released?

No sign of it yet ... I'm sure I will be burning many CDs once it's available...
