FAO seburn or DrTCP settings gurus

what were your settings adsl3g? These have been best for me but if ya have ssomething i haven't tryed...
 
Hey, I'm going to revive this old thread. Does anyone know if using 65535 as a RWIN value (either in TCPOptimizer or Dr.TCP) so that you dont have to use window scaling is a good idea?

It seems a bit rash, but someone posted it on this site and it doesnt work too badly for me. Besides that I use the same settings as usual and MTU of 1352.

This thread should be useful to newcomers anyway..
 
I'm convinced, after much experimentation that an RWIN < 64k so you can avoid window scaling and timestamping is more optimal for Iburst. The full DrTCP settings I have are:

RWIN 62976 (MSS 1512 * 48)
Window Scaling: No
Time Stamping: No
Selective Acks: Yes
Dial Up (RAS) MTU: 1500
Path MTU Discovery: Yes
Black Hole Detection: No
Max Duplicative ACK's: 1
TTL: 64
MTU for all internet active NIC's: 1352

I think one of the main reasons for having a lower RWIN is the higher potential for frame errors on wireless transmissions. Re-submitting large amounts of data in response to errors could significantly slow down your connection.

That last part... you saying that a lower RWIN (> 64k) will give you a higher frame error rate? This is a very bad thing like you say, so why do you suggest a lower RWIN value then?

Did you mean that one of the main reasons for NOT having a lower RWIN was......etc?
 
I said that badly. What I mean is that you will tend to get a higher frame error rate on a wireless technology like Iburst (regardless of the RWIN size). Having a lower RWIN size means that less data needs to be resubmitted when frame errors do occur.

Okay, so its an even better idea. Cool, its working great for me, I think some others should try this out because generally on this site people will tell you to put you RWIN to 255555.
