It's really amazing to consider how technology has ascended exponentially over the last two decades, a good example is looking at Doom 1 vs. Doom 3. Hell even Quake 4 is light-years ahead of Quake 1 and it even used a proper 3D engine. I find that something has been lost though, I remember painstakingly downloading the first demo of Quake 1 using a dial-up 28.8 modem, waiting up and reconnecting to the FTP site as the +/-11MB demo took a couple of late nights to download. The worst part was is I had a 486-DX4-100Mhz which made the game run like pants compared to my mates lesser P75. Those were the days...
