Last night there was a farm attack on the Bushmans Nek Rd in Underberg Distict. That's the road leading to and past Splashy Fen. 5 assailants tied the farmer up and beat him to death with a hammer and took his Land Cruiser,

This is very close to home for me as I live on the same road.

Eish. We often go on holiday to that area :(
RIP to the farmer.
Hope those responsible trip in front of a truck or something.

A hammer?
Robbery is one thing - but why the GBH?
That's just twisted. Or is it making due with what you have?
Rob a dude, tie him up and move on.
The excessive violence coinciding with these robberies is disturbing to say the least.

RIP and condolences.

Yep, bludgeoned him to death. His wife was tied up and gagged in the bathroom. Luckily she managed to escape and ran to neighbour for help but it was too late for her husband.

Glad she made it - sorry that she'll have to live with those memories haunting her. What a paradox... :o

Is it safe to assume the victims were Europeans while the attackers were Africans? I wonder why did they kill him . . . I don't buy the excuse - 5 man can not overpower an old man and MUST kill him in order to commit the robbery. RIP

They also took firearms and an Isuzu bakkie.

And it took place at around 18:30

You could assume that the dead person and the attackers were African. The dead chap, Dan, was white and the 5 attackers were black.

Any number of reasons they might have killed chief among them being that some of them could be current or former employees and known to the victim so they would kill him to conceal their identities.

In his own round about surly way un-Intel is saying the same thing with this thinly veiled innuendo.

Dan and I have been mates for over 30 years....why did they have to take him out???Maybe a labour dispute as he is a forrester with not that many people working for him.

Sorry to hear :( Were there often labour disputes?

10 years ago I had to rush to the Claremont branch of the company I worked for then as I got a phone call to say the manager had been hurt. On arrival I found out he had been robbed and beaten with a hammer by the assailant(s).

It was the sickest thing I've ever seen in my life and I wish it upon nobody. Through some miracle he survived, no other way to put it.

I can't take anymore bad news. Just yesterday I had to go to Ladysmith as a good friend dropped dead from a heart attack. Now this. Feel like crawling in a hole and hiding for a while.
