Farm Attacks

That is a completely different side of farm attacks that get so little attention. Most farm workers are in it for life, their parents worked on the farm and so do they. These are people that do not have a lot, to see them abused like that is just not right.

I grew up in an earlier time, when attacks like this did not happen, but even when fights amongst workers turned bloody and violent the farmer would always try and restore the peace. I have seen many a bloody bakkie returning from the hospital after fights. Now the threat is from external forces preying off these people who are already on hard times.

I don't know what to make of it. Honestly, a few months back we buried my grandma and by far the most people in attendace at the service were farm workers and former farm workers who have spent all of their life on the farm, interacting with the farmer and his family everyday, and they are like family. I know some farms exploit their workforce, but in most cases the bond runs a lot deeper and it is a mutual situation.

Why target these people?

Just like the rest of us, they are vulnerable and are easy targets, drugs are often involved and there's often no sense to be made out of some of the attacks.

Because they are sick fcks that need to be exterminated.

OT: I now sort of understand how Oscar could mistake that girl for a burglar, I almost decapitated my wife with a hockey stick last night. I heard glass break after midnight so I flew out of bed and ran inside with a hockey stick thinking someone broke the window in the lounge to get in. When I rushed down the passage it was my SO that dropped a plate in the kitchen. I'm still not sure which one of us got the biggest scare. I think I only woke up after I already went from the bedroom down the passage, past the kitchen and into the lounge. This paranoia all because of crap like the above. I never even realized that she wasn't in bed.

It's bad. It's so bad every sound prompts immediate investigation. Fortunately no one hurt. You can count yourself lucky.

I live in a fairly secure area but I can't sleep properly at night.

I feel safer in the sticks but with proliferation of drugs, muggings have gone up and police are becoming a little busier.

I can't even handle the level of paranoia and hearing noises living in the suburbs, don't know how you rural/farmer types handle it :wtf:

Yeah, I can't ever go back to that. I'll only stay in security estates going forward. Even with the near R2k levies I don't think I would be able to sleep knowing anyone could break in with ease. Then again, we did have a break in where we now stay back in 2013, so you are never fully secure.

A Lutzville farmer has been found guilty of murdering a farmworker by beating him with a spade, dragging him with a quadbike, and then burying him behind his father's smallholding three years ago.

He has also been found guilty of two counts of assault.

Martin Visser, who owns the Dassieshoek farm, stood in the dock with folded arms after Judge Nathan Erasmus handed down his verdict in the Western Cape High Court, sitting in Vredendal, on Tuesday.

I'd gladly put Mr Visser in first position on the list of farms to be expropriated.

The option being beaten while expropriated is also strongly recommended for him.

Animal.

And in other news...dozens of other South African murders are found guilty on a daily basis... but HEY!...this one was a farmer so let's make a big deal about it in the media...and let some forumite be triggered by pasting the link on this thread...

eh? Does this not qualify as "Farm Attack" ? Isn't that the thread I posted in?

Read it carefully:
Visser was arrested a year and a half after the remains of Adam Pieterse, 32, who worked on a neighbouring farm, was found in the vineyards behind his father, Chris Visser's farm in March 2015.

The accused ran a shop from the garage of his farmhouse, selling groceries and wine on credit. The farmworkers paid on Fridays when they received their wages.

This guy is as much of a farmer as the people running the wine tasting tours. The only reason why they would label him a farmer is because of the political implication of it.

How many other South Africans were killed with a spade before being dragged behind a quad bike?

That’s not a simply murder but barbaric.

I guess he’ll inherit at some point, no?

It's amazing that these guys think that they can get away with that.

Although this is true, you will be flamed for using that post as a soapbox for any comments about other more regularly occurring murders.

You should know better.
