Farm Attacks

Geesus,

So sorry man. Glad they got out alive and mainly unhurt. Do you think they'll hit that house again or has it now passed? Guess it's time to weigh up the options of relocating.
No idea, my mom's house was broken into around 6 months ago, this was incident 5 or 6 since they moved in. First armed robbery though.

Friday night someone about half a kilometer up the road had the same.

They are moving out.

Damn, I would do the same. One would think that if it's a gang they will hit and move on. But all the break ins then the robbery, fark no. My Folks are also thinking of selling now and retire in a small quiet town and move away from the City life. Trying to get them to go to the Karoo :o

Modimolle farm couple murdered, house burnt out

Polokwane - The bodies of an elderly Modimolle farm couple have been found on their burnt out farm following a robbery at the weekend, Limpopo police said on Monday.

On Sunday evening, the neighbours of Robbie, 69, and Ina Lotters, 64, noticed that there was a fire on their farm.

"On arrival, they found the body of Robbie Lotters lying in front of the house with the house on fire," Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Ronel Otto said.

She said the house was "completely destroyed".

The man’s body had several wounds to the head, said Otto.

Around midday on Monday, Ina Lotters's body was found inside the burnt out house.

Post mortems would be conducted on both bodies to determine the cause of death.

Several items that were taken from the house were found scattered in the bushes, including a quad bike.

No arrests have yet been made.

Thanks Lion. This is really horrifying - It feels like the Red Jackets are going to come for our women and children next to put them in concentration camps. Take what you can and burn the rest. TIA.

Fewer farm attacks but more farmer murders in 2015

Naledi Shange, News24

Johannesburg - While fewer farm attacks were recorded this year, the number of those killed in the attacks was marginally higher than last year, the AfriForum Research Institute said on Thursday.

Researcher Lorraine Claasen said 62 farm murders were recorded in the 270 farm attacks reported this year. Last year, 61 farm murders were recorded in 279 attacks.

"It’s disturbing that more murders were committed in [fewer] farm attacks. It shows that attackers are not cautious to kill,” said Claasen.

"Sixty-two fatalities are shocking, and in most attacks, only the content of safes, cash and/or firearms were stolen," she said.

Gauteng recorded the highest number of fatal farm attacks, followed by Limpopo and KwaZulu-Natal.

Claasen said this was unacceptable.

"We cannot allow this shocking statistic to repeat itself in 2016. AfriForum will continue putting pressure on government and international role players to get farm murders declared a priority crime.

"We shall also continue establishing community safety networks across the country to improve the safety of communities in rural as well as urban areas,” she said.

Farm killers get life sentences

Durban - Young people who committed barbaric and despicable acts of violence against innocent and defenceless members of society should not expect a lighter sentence by claiming to rely on their relative youthfulness and immaturity.

Judge Rishi Seegobin made the comments in a reserved judgment handed down in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Thursday, in turning down the appeal of Lindokuhle Khoza, one of three men who had killed Ekard Schutte, 76, his wife, Elizabeth, 66, and their son, Lutz, 33, at their farm in Richmond in March 2014.

Khoza and his accomplices were all given life sentences for the murder, 15 years for aggravated robbery and five for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm. Khoza was granted leave to appeal because he was under 18 when the murder took place.

After killing Schutte in his shed, the men went into the main house. Elizabeth was not there, so they waited for her to return and open the safe. She arrived with Lutz, whom she had just fetched from the airport. He was hoping to celebrate his dad’s birthday the next day, but was viciously attacked and murdered.

Elizabeth was then killed.

Each family member was stabbed repeatedly, their throats were slit and they were doused with petrol and set alight.

Family beaten to death in Doornfontein farm attack

Family beaten to death in Doornfontein farm attack.

Johannesburg - An elderly man, his son, his son's fiancé and her 9-year-old daughter were killed in a brutal attack at a Doornfontein farm this week, police said on Saturday.

The attack was assumed to have happened between Wednesday evening and the early hours of Thursday morning.

All four of them were allegedly beaten to death. They had sustained blunt force trauma, said Captain Appel Ernst.

"The 73-year-old male was allegedly visiting South Africa after his family emigrated to the United Kingdom a few years back," Ernst said in a statement.

The man's family in the UK became concerned after he failed to return their calls. A family friend was asked to go and check on him at the farm.

The friend discovered the elderly man's body on the property and alerted the police.

"During investigation on the scene, the [son's] fiancé was found in a partially built house on the premises," said Ernst.

The 46-year-old woman was dead.

Police officers continued their search around the property and little girl was also found.

"..The body of the child was discovered in a shed," Ernst said.

A search was conducted for the elderly man's son for hours on end but there was no sign of him or the family's Mercedes SUV.

The abandoned vehicle was later traced to the Greenhills area, more than 40km away from Doornfontein.

The police's K9 unit as well as a helicopter were deployed to the area to search for the missing 42-year-old man.

The man was still nowhere to be found on Thursday.

On Friday, police conducted an aerial search for the man over the farm. His body was eventually located in a grove on the property.

At this time, his family from the UK had already arrived on the scene.

Nothing else but the family's vehicle, which was later found abandoned, had been taken from the property, Ernst said.

No arrests had been made.
