Local security company Drift Reaction has reported that the victims of the Copperhouse Road attack were being watched for some time as the suspects knew the victims smoked outside every night and pounced on them while they were doing just that, Krugersdorp News reports. Netcare 911 paramedics were called out to a farm in Copperhouse Road just after midnight on 8 February, after receiving a report that a young couple had been attacked in their home.

Tebogo Magoro, spokesperson for Netcare 911, said the paramedics attended to the couple and found that the 21-year-old man had sustained serious injuries to the face as well as a stab wound to the back. The woman was assaulted but had no visibly serious injuries. “I did not even have two drags of my cigarette when I heard footsteps and the next moment the four came at me, each pointing at me with a firearm,” said one of the victims.

Drift’s report explained that the man was kept outside by two of the suspects, who told him to keep quiet or they would shoot.

Fairview farmer Charles Back returned to work on Wednesday to "show [his] millennial counter-parts what real work commitment looks like" after he was attacked on Tuesday night.

Cape Town – Following a brutal attack on Tuesday night, Charles Back, one of the Western Cape's most renowned winemakers, returned to work on Wednesday to "show [his] millennial counterparts what real work commitment looks like".

Back, the owner of the wine and cheese-producing farm Fairview in Paarl, was the victim of a "brutal farm attack" on Tuesday night during which three men beat him up.

But despite the attack, he returned to work straight from the hospital on Wednesday, posing for a picture, all bloodied and bandaged, with his staff.

"Last night, I endured a brutal farm attack here on my Fairview farm in Paarl. This morning, I decided to come straight from the hospital and stop by Fairview, to show my millennial counterparts what real work commitment looks like, as ongoing banter we have between us," he said in a statement on Wednesday.

"In truth and in all seriousness, the attack was physically and emotionally painful.

"I was beaten up with a crowbar, have broken bones, was rolled up into a carpet and left for dead in my home."

Back said that he survived was nothing short of a miracle and he felt like he had returned from the dead.

"I am so grateful to be alive, and my heart goes out to all the people that have lost their family members in the ongoing farm attacks," he said.

Motivated to 'make even the smallest difference'

Back said the vicious attack hadn't left him bitter.

"I want it to be known that this attack was not politically divisive in any way, but that these were just three common gangsters motivated by their own self-interests," he said.

"I believe in the values that this country was built on, and continue to hope for harmony and peace. I am now doubly motivated to come into work every day, and will continue to ensure that I can contribute and try make even the smallest difference in my community."

Western Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana confirmed police had opened a case of house robbery.

Rwexana said the suspects stole various electronic household items and a firearm.

The suspects fled the scene and no arrests have been made.

Agricultural Writers SA gave Back the national 2017 Farmer of the Year award, describing him as a man of many firsts.

The organisation said Back was one of the first producers to make land and company ownership a reality for farmworkers. He also established the first goat milk factory in the country.

Yeah, saw that, and the comments were pretty much mostly positive, and then the comment from that dumb **** American who suggested that it's Big Corporations who are behind these attacks, they want to take over the 'small guys' :rolleyes:

They are just low life savages

Why does this -- old man -- have a firearm and the only good it does is to get stolen -- to Kill someone else.

We need less of these fall over them selves do goody goodies and more solid types that know how to , and can defend themselves

We do not want to hear about farm attack victims
We DO want to hear about DEAD farm attack PERPS... !!!!!!!!

TBH he seems to be a much better person than you, what makes you think you have the right to criticize him? Doesn't actually sound as if you have done any good in your life before.

We know crime is a problem, this gentlemen is an example to others. And all you can do is criticize him because he is to PC for you. W can't all be arseholes.
 
I dunno how he remains positive and unconcerned after such an attack but hey, hopefully he doesn't go through similar again. The scum must feel like real heroes beating up all these old folks huh.

I would be the first to accept his view on what happened and the fact that he himself would be best to judge if it was political, just a crime and so on. He suffered through it. But I agree with you fully, he's a way better man than me. I would have had so much hate boiling in me. He seems to just take it on the chin and move on :o

For some people it takes time before reality hits. I had a friend that was held up at her house with her husband, tied up and assaulted. The bastards pulled up and emptied the whole house, literally, they didn't leave a single thing. Even now, a few years later she can barely talk about it. At the time she said it was fine, up until a few weeks later. They put the house on the market after that, easiest move they ever made. There was nothing to move, they only had the clothes on their backs.

I would have a lot more respect if he had killed ALL the useless f^^cker$
ALL his attitude does is embolden the crims and encourage MORE crime
The ONLY thing SA crims understand is blood and death !

I dislike criminals as much as the next person, but you are criticizing this gentlemen from the comfort of your desk, you have no idea what happened or what he went through. He was a victim of crime, just like so many others out there. How do you think he would feel reading the above? How would you feel if you were him and I spewed the same bile you are spewing now?
 
Farm attacks, if they remain unsolved, will result in SA eating rats.

Quick question, when farmers (normally white) get brutally attacked and murdered, do laborers (normally black) also get victimized? Or is it just farm owners?

In cases the workers are attacked beforehand as to get intel on the house and the occupants. But there are cases they are not attacked and even cases where they are involved.
 
Mpumalanga police nab six for farm murder

Johannesburg - Six suspects were arrested following a house robbery and murder at a farm in Charl Cilliers, near Secunda, Mpumalanga police said on Monday.

The suspects, aged between 35 and 39, and including a woman, were traced and arrested at their different hideouts in Embalenhle and Emzinoni after police acted on information received regarding their whereabouts.

According to police, on Friday night, at approximately 10:30pm, a 73-year-old man was watching television with his family when three armed men suddenly stormed into their house. They demanded keys to the safe and took the elderly man to the bedroom where the safe was mounted and in the process shot the victim.

Farmer arrested for ramming home with tractor

A dairy farmer embroiled in a labour dispute is facing a string of charges after repeatedly ramming a tractor into a home – seriously injuring a former employee. The farmer‚ from the coastal town of Mossel Bay on the Garden Route‚ was arrested by police on Sunday. The dispute appears to have started in December 2017 when a farm worker and his wife were fired and subsequently lodged an unfair dismissal case against the farmer at the CCMA.

Elvin Booysen‚ chairman of a local farm committee in the area‚ said the couple were confronted by the farmer while fetching wood. “While that (CCMA) case was ongoing they continued to live on the farm. The river is on the border of the farm …. The farmer came and confronted them. He told them it was his river and they cannot remove the wood‚” said Booysen.

The couple were allegedly assaulted during the confrontation on February 25. “Their house is situated next to a gravel road. When they heard the tractor approaching they assumed it was driving along the road. “The farmer then drove right through the house. He threatened to kill them. They have been working for the farmer for over a year‚” said Booysen. The couple‚ whom he said were in shock after the incident‚ had been receiving food donations from the local community.

Southern Cape police spokesman Malcom Pojie said a case of assault was opened after the incident.
